Primary School Learning @ Leeds Museums and Galleries January 2012 Welcome to our first primary school newsletter! There are nine wonderful and very different museum sites across Leeds. The buildings and their collections belong to you. We are here to help you access the collections in the best possible way for you and your students. We hope to see you soon, Leeds Museums and Galleries Learning Team Workshop prices held until September 2012! Want an amazing, quality learning experience, led by subject specialists? Don’t want to break the bank? Then visit one of our nine sites for a curriculum-based workshop. We have held our workshop prices at £50 for 2hrs for a class of 30 students. That makes us still the cheapest museum service across Yorkshire!! Want to see what’s on offer? Then visit: www.leeds.gov.uk/museumsandgalleries And click on the learning tab or search by site. The worst Victorian job? Probably not! Bring your KS2 class to a new workshop at Abbey House Museum this May to discover the worst jobs a Victorian could have. Contact Sarah Allen, Learning & Access Officer for more de- tails or to book on 0113 2305492 Free Science workshops during 2012 at Armley Mills! Got a class wanting to learn about Physics? We are running a free two hour session for KS2, Machines and Motion, for the Festival of Science in March 2012. Or how about getting close to nature during National Insect Week (5 th June to 1 st July) with Magnificent Mini Beasts suitable for KS1 and KS2. We want our own flock of sheep, not real ones though, ones made from pom- poms. We need local schools and groups to help by making pom-poms. Thank you to all those schools who are already taking part. The project is running until December so if anyone would like to take part later this year please do contact us. Pharaoh King of Egypt at Leeds City Museum This year we have a fantastic, free, special exhibition on tour from the British Museum. Pharaoh will opens on the 11th February until the 17th June and provides an amazing opportunity to see incredible objects from the Ancient Egyptian collection at the British Museum. Leeds City Museum already of-fers an Ancient Egyptian workshops (£50 per class for a 2hr workshop), but it would be worth com-bining this with a visit to the brand new Pharaoh exhibition as well. Free worksheets and trails for schools to accompany Pharaoh will be available by advanced request. Remember to book early as we expect it to be extremely popular: 0113 2243728

Art at Temple Newsam House Did you know that Temple Newsam House is also a decorative arts museum? We have workshops investigating pattern printing, sew-ing textiles and designing furniture. Prepare for War at Lotherton Hall! Join us for our most popular workshop and ex-perience life at Lotherton Hall during the Second World War. The WWII Role Play Day offers a unique insight into the life of wartime evacuees. Dress up and prepare for war in a country house setting.

Crinolines and creativity Victorian Look Book March to December 2012 Our 2012 exhibition at Lotherton Hall focuses on global and historical influences of Victorian fashion and furniture.
