2005 Ministerial decree no 15512 “Regulating the use ofand protection against ionizing radiations”. In this decree,Article 8 states that the LAEC shall, in cooperation with, pthe Minister of Public Health, establish a practicalmechanism for safe disposal of radioactive waste.

Institutions and organizations involved in RWM in Lebanon are:

Regulatory Body: The ministry of health with LAECh D

Services: LAEC performs different waste conditioning and on-it di l i f f iliti t it i lsite disposal services for facilities upon request; it is also

responsible for the construction and management of a nationalsite for radioactive waste.

Users: Users of radioactive waste work in different fields(medical, industrial, research…etc).

Scrap Yards: Different orphan sources are being found in scrapyards as they are present with scrap material for export. Thesesources are discovered on the borders prior to leaving thesources are discovered on the borders prior to leaving thecountry. Location 1: Radium sources of 27 tubes (359.92 mg / 13.30 GBq) ( g q)conditioned by IAEA experts in July 2001. The sources were stored yon the premises of the facility.
