Q.        What should I do if an employee or co-worker comes to work and is obviously sick?   A.        Review and follow Washington State Department of Health guidance for handling illness and suspected COVID-19 cases in the workplace. If you are not the employee’s supervisor, report the issue to the supervisor. If you are the supervisor, or a supervisor is not available, report the matter to HRS immediately. In consultation with HRS, you may have a conversation with the employee to determine whether they are sick. If they are sick, they should be separated from other employees immediately and directed to self-isolate at home and to call their health care provider for assistance. If the employee may meet the criteria the state DOH has identified for suspected COVID-19 cases, you should also contact your local department of health. Perform environmental cleaning in accordance with CDC recommendations. Which of these elements you will focus on and the extent of planning your unit will need to accomplish will depend on your unit’s defined mission within the university and which aspects of your unit’s functions are considered “mission critical and essential” during times of emergency.  Establishing what is mission critical and essential is a process that must engage unit staff, faculty, unit leaders and senior leaders at the division and college administrative levels
