Prepositions With One Case
• ajpov– 645 occurrences– Always in the genitive case– Most frequently rendered from,
away from or of•I received the book from the brother. (ajpov tou: ajdelfou:)
– Contains the allomorphs ajp before a vowel (ajp ejmou: “from me”:) and ajf before a rough breathing mark. (ajf hJmw:n “from us”)

• Note:– A preposition is always to be
read in conjunction with what it governs in a sentence.
– This combination is called a prepositional phrase and is a single unit of meaning.
– Hence, ejn tw: o[clw/ is not to be read as ejn (in) plus tw: o[xlw (for the crowd) but rather as a single unit of thought (in the crowd).
