something, because of the law Some of these signs include:

Stop sign- Octagonal sign with white wording and border on a red background

Yield Sign- White inverted triangle with red wording and border whit a white border band

Do Not Enter Sign- White square with a red circle that has a white band horizontally across it with “DO NOT ENTER” in white

Traffic Signals When a traffic signal is hung vertically,

the red light is always on the top, the yellow in the center and the green on the bottom.

When the traffic signal is hung vertically, the red light is on the left, the yellow in the middle, and the green is on the right.

Traffic Signals Red Light

A motorist must stop before the intersection or crosswalk and remain stopped until the light changes to green

Yellow Light A motorist should stop before entering an

intersection, unless the vehicle is so close to the intersection that they cannot stop

Green Light A motorist should proceed through the intersection.

Yield to pedestrians and other vehicles still in the intersection. Before turning through an intersection yield to other vehicles

Traffic Signals Green Arrow

When shown proceed only as shown by the arrow, however yield to pedestrians and be cautious

Flashing Yellow Light Slow down and proceed with caution

Flashing Red Light Stop, yield to pedestrians and traffic, go when safe

Unlit Signal If no one is directing traffic the light is now

considered a four way stop sign. Follow those rules

Road Markings

Yellow Center Lines- Separate traffic flow going in opposite directions

White Lines- Separate traffic going in the same direction when there is more than one lane

Dashed Lines-On a motorist’s side of the center line of the road means that passing is permitted

Solid Line- Do not pass on this side of the line White Dashed Lines- Separate traffic lanes

on multi lane highways

crossing areas White Stop Lines- Show where to stop

at stop signs or traffic signals Double Yellow/White Solid Lines-

Prohibit passing Yellow Solid and Dashed Lines-

Controlled passing. You can pass only if the dashed lines are on your side of the roadway
