Section 1• George Washington-• Why were colonists split over which side to be on-• Advantages and disadvantages for the British and Colonists• Battle of Trenton-• Battle of Saratoga, also why was this battle so important to
the colonists-• British strategy-
Section 1• George Washington-general of the continental army. He kept the army
together through the darkest days
• Why were colonists split over which side to be on- Which side they chose depended on where they lived, job, and in some cases religion
• Advantages and disadvantages for the British and Colonists
• Battle of Trenton- Washington needed a victory to keep his army together, enlistments ended soon, led surprise attack on the Hessians at Trenton. Captured the town and much needed supplies.
• Battle of Saratoga, also why was this battle so important to the colonists- In trying to cut off the New England colonies English Gen. Burgoyne is defeated by the continental army. The victory is important because it showed Europeans the Americans had a chance to beat the British.
• British strategy- overall was to cut off the NE colonies from the rest of the colonies by taking the Hudson River Valley
