Petroleum at home

our homes contain dozens of products made with petroleum, including gasoline, grocery bags and glue; telephones, tires and toilet seats. And don’t forget pens, plastic wrap and perfume; balloons, bandages and bubble gum; hearing aids, hair brushes and house paint.

Soon the list of petroleum-based products will seem endless – and it almost is. We estimate there are at least 3,000 products made from crude oil and natural gas. Can your family find six of them and write them on this list?

We all use petroleum-based products every day. that means we are all responsible for using them wisely. think of one way your family can help conserve Canada’s petroleum resources. think of the 3rs: reduce, reuse and recycle. You might reduce your use of petroleum resources by using plastic containers instead of plastic wrap or bags. You could reuse petroleum products by turning a yogurt container into a plant pot or using a grocery bag as a garbage bag. or you could recycle petroleum products such as motor oil, milk jugs and pop bottles.
