Mandirs are seen as a place where heaven meets earth,

so many are shaped like mountains.

The towers of a mandir are called

shikharas.

Mandirs and decorated very elaborately, with

many statues and paintings of gods and

goddesses.

There are many symbols in the Mandir,

especially the Om symbol. Om is a special

word said at the beginning and end of a

Hindu prayer.

Each mandir has one main god that it is dedicated to.

Inside the mandir is a shrine with an image of its main god, this is normally

placed inside a special alcove – this

shrine is called the murti.

People leave offerings such as flowers, fruit, water, milk, nuts or incense by the murti as a sign of respect for the God which the

temple is dedicated to.

Task:

Split your page into two sections. On one side, draw your own Mandir (Hindu Temple) and on the other side, draw the inside of the Mandir.

Label the different parts, such as the Bell, where the shoes go, etc.
