6 East Cheshire Learning & Development Prospectus
Foreword
Welcome to the 2012 / 2013 Training prospectus for East Cheshire NHS Trust. In this prospectus you will find many of the courses that will be provided within the year. The Trust recognises that staff are its’ most valuable resource and as such, supports and encourages learning to enable the realisation of individual’s professional and personal potential. The trust endeavours to provide high quality education, training and development with the specific aim of improving patient care. This means the Trust is committed to ensuring that staff receives appropriate and timely training, learning and development to ensure they are:
Confident and competent in their job role
Able to provide person centred, high quality and evidenced informed care
Provided with the opportunity to develop and progress in their field of Expertise.
This training prospectus provides information for Trust staff on the training and education that is available. The prospectus is updated weekly. The prospectus demonstrates the commitment of East Cheshire NHS Trust to the goal of becoming a learning organisation. A learning organisation is one which facilitates the learning of all it members and continuously transforms itself. At East Cheshire NHS Trust the Learning & Development policy lays out the annual process by which we prioritise and plan the training within the resources we have. Before applying for a study day or course, staff should ensure that the training they wish to undertake has been agreed by their manager as part of their Personal Development Plan (PDP). The Personal Development Review (sometimes know as an appraisal) should happen at least annually is one of the key elements in identifying needs. For some of these it will be clear and obvious how they are to be met (e.g. those on the statutory/mandatory list). Others may require some thought; a training need is not always met by a training course as there are many other ways of gaining access to learning. The prospectus will help you with ideas of how some needs may be met. The prospectus identifies courses and the dates for 2010 / 2011 though this list may be added to throughout the year. If you manage a group of staff this will allow you to allocate individuals throughout the year, so that rostering is easier and there is not an ‘end of year’ rush, particularly for Statutory and Mandatory Training. We hope you find something that meets your learning and development needs, but please feel free to contact us with any suggestions of courses/study days which you feel are missing.

Statutory & Mandatory Training
Core Statutory & Mandatory e-Learning
From Tuesday 2nd April 2013, Core Statutory & Mandatory training will be completed electronically through e-learning programmes, once every 3 years. Staff who have completed face to face training from January 2013 will also need a refresher in 3 years. Therefore, complete your training when it is due this year and you will not have to repeat it for another three years. Benefits of e-learning
There are many potential benefits that e-learning offers you and the NHS, such as:
Reduced timescales
Studies have shown that a whole day's worth of face to face training can be delivered in as little as 90 minutes worth of e-learning.
Cost effectiveness The need for travel, a network of trainers and the general overheads of training can be reduced significantly. All national NHS e-learning is provided to the NHS free of charge.
Accessibility All materials can be made available online. This means there are no waiting lists, learning can be undertaken close to the time of need and learners can refresh their knowledge if required. eStatutory & Mandatory is based on the modules developed for the Core Skills Framework. The modules meet all the legislative and best practice guidelines required for statutory and mandatory training. The seven modules are listed below:
Adult Safeguarding
Child Safeguarding
Moving & Handling
Health, Safety & Security
Infection Prevention & Control
Equality & Diversity
Fire Safety
You will not be registered as having completed statutory and mandatory training until ALL seven modules have been successfully completed. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you are up to date.

Objectives: To complete all the basic statutory & mandatory training elements which require completion by all trust staff.
11 East Cheshire Learning & Development Prospectus
WHY e-Learning? What you said...What we did... “Face to face sessions are lengthy and time consuming” – As mentioned above e-learning can be delivered in greatly reduced timescales, even as you work at your own pace. For completing the above modules and assessments, it should take on average 120 minutes. The modules can be completed all together, or if this is not possible (common within healthcare settings) you can complete the modules flexibly. All modules must be completed within one month of first log-in. “We have to travel often long distance, to access the face to face training” – All training can be completed on a local East Cheshire NHS computer at a time during your working day to suit you. Time for e-learning should be rostered into your daily routine by your manager. Every East Cheshire NHS Trust employee will have either a Smart Card or an e-learning log-in, to enable you to access e-learning (details below). “How do I log into e-learning?” There are 2 ways to access eLearning, you can use your existing smartcard or you will be issued with a username and password. You should contact the ESR Systems Support Team on [email protected] for all access issues. “Once logged in, how do I find eStatutory & Mandatory?” Please follow instructions on the e-learning guidance documents which can be found here or you can view the captivate session here. “How long will eStatutory & Mandatory take to complete?” It should take on average 120 minutes to complete all seven modules. The modules can be completed all together, or if this is not possible (common within healthcare settings) you can complete the modules flexibly. All modules must be successfully completed before you can be considered compliant. “How often do I need to complete eStatutory & Mandatory?” eStatutory & Mandatory will only need to be completed once every three years. For example if you complete your e-learning in April 2013, you will not need to complete again until April 2016. “What if I cannot access a PC at work?” If it is not possible to access a computer in your area of work you can book time on a computer in the Staff Library, contact 01625 663923. Facilitated drop–in training sessions are also being held around the trust. See Staff Matters and the Learning and Development Prospectus for more details. “Can the training by completed at home?” Yes, the training can be completed at home however you will need a separate remote access username and password. Please email the ESR Systems Support Team on [email protected] to request this, and also for guidance on PC software requirements. Be aware that the trust cannot provide any technical support for home PCs other than providing usernames and passwords.

What happens if I cannot use a PC? If you cannot use a PC for any reason, then your manager will need to contact Claire Walton on 01625 663137 or email [email protected] for advice and guidance. What about clinical mandatory and IG training? These still require annual updates. You can find IG training in the same place as eStatutory and Mandatory.
Please note: As soon as you successfully complete all seven eStatutory & Mandatory modules you will
not need to update for three years. Do it now! If you would like any further information regarding e-learning, please contact: Claire Walton (Learning & Organisational Development Facilitator) 01625 663137 [email protected]

Mandatory Information Governance E-learning
Good Information Governance practice ensures necessary safeguards for, and appropriate use of, corporate, patient and personal information.
This also provides assurance to the public and to others who commission us that we are all committed to providing a confidential and secure service.
It is a national NHS requirement that all staff must complete and pass the mandatory module ‘Introduction to Information Governance. The module will take about an hour and can be completed at the workplace, at home (through a locally arranged agreement) or in a classroom.
Where possible, admin staff or those with access to a computer who feel that they will be able to follow the instructions, should complete the training within their own work environment. User name and passwords should be requested from the Info Gov Help desk on 01625 661625 prior to commencement. Further guidance can be found on the intranet and on the Trust website http://www.eastcheshire.nhs.uk/Our-Services/Information-Governance.htm
The IT training suite is being made available for those who are unable to complete the training in their workplace or feel they may need some IT assistance to complete the e-learning module. Additionally, a drop in facility will be available in the Library during opening hours for staff who are happy to complete the module without IT assistance. Anyone who feels that they may have difficulties in completing the e-learning package should make this known to their line manager as soon as possible.
