CHESTER RIVER

ROWING CLUB

CRRC has dozens of active members, from teens to “masters” in their 70s and 80s, a year-round rowing and fitness calendar and a growing inventory of boats. Some boats are rigged for sculling (where each rower has two oars) while others are sweep boats (where each crew member has both hands on one oar). We row boats with 1, 2, 4 and 8 seats:

Singles—super-stable sculls for novices and racing hulls for skilled rowers

Doubles (sculls) and a Pair (sweep)

Fours (sweep) and Quads (sculls)

Eights (sweep)

Our Novice Class is taught by a professional coach, assisted by experienced members. If you join the club after completing the course—at half-price for the first year—you can row club boats at no extra cost, after demonstrating that you can row them safely.

Rowing is- and lower-body

workout that many consider the perfect way to stay fit (and unlike gyms, the scenery is always wonderful).

The Chester River Rowing Club got its start in the 1980s when a group of men who’d rowed in high school and college decided to get back on the water. Washington College offered the use of its boathouse on an ideal stretch of the Chester River and we’ve been there ever since, teaching teens and “masters” how to row, adding new boats and growing the club.

We hope you’ll want to learn to row, and we hope you’ll want to keep at it, just for fun or as a race team member. Please fill out the form at right and mail it in along with your payment.
