1. From the FILE menu, select OPEN and select a photo in which you want to add theeffect.

2. Duplicate the layer by pressing the keyboard shortcut CMD/CTRL-J.

3. From the ENHANCE menu, select ADJUST SHARPNESS.

4. In the ADJUST SHARPNESS dialog box, enterAMOUNT: 200, RADIUS: 2.0, REMOVE GAUSSIAN BLUR.

7. Press the B key on your keyboard to select the BRUSH tool.

8. In the TOOL OPTIONS, select a SOFT ROUNDBRUSH, adjust the size of the brush to larger than the eye, and OPACITY: 8%.

9. Reset your FOREGROUND and BACKGROUND COLOUR PALETTES to default bypressing the D key on your keyboard.

10. With the black colour selected, paint on the nose, jaw line, and anyshadowy areas.

***Your objective is to add contrast to the image by darkening some areas and lightening other areas.

11. Swap the colours by pressing the X key on your keyboard so WHITE is selected.

12. Adjust the size of the brush and paint on the eyes and lips.

***Your layer will start to look like the outline of a face.

13. In the LAYERS PALETTE, press the ADJUSTMENT LAYER icon (black/white cookie)and select HUE/SATURATION.

14. In the HUE/SATURATION adjustments, select the MASTERchannel, SATURATION: -35,LIGHTNESS: -25.

15. Select the RED channel and adjust SATURATION: -35, LIGHTNESS: -20.

***Or to your liking.

16. In the LAYERS PALETTE, press the ADJUSTMENT LAYERicon (black/white cookie) and select LEVELS.

17. In the LEVELS adjustment, drag the GREY slider to the right.
