PRESIDENT’S LETTER

One of the highest honors we can grant our members is a

lifetime membership as gratitude for many years of service to

the club. This honor is not to be given lightly, but only to those

members who have played an integral part in supporting the

integrity of our mission to promote German culture and

ensuring the viability of the club.

Along with the board, I feel there is one such deserving

member within our ranks and nominate Art Ruckle as Lifetime

Member.

Art has been a prominent presence at the club since he became

a member in 1988 and is a man of many talents. As Bavarian

Dance Group president, Schutzen president, Schuhplattler and

Happy Wanderer, he has supported the club’s purpose to

educate and preserve our German traditions, culture and

heritage. As a cook, golfer, carpenter, MC, Vagabond, father,

and board member, he has helped keep our doors open and

make the club a fun place to be.

We hope you will consider our nomination to elect Art as a

Lifetime Member. The vote will be held at next month’s

membership meeting.

Valentine’s Day golf

Join us Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day love on the links. Pair up with a

loved one and meet us at Angel Park Golf Course at 6 p.m. We will

be holding a 9-hole putting contest. Kerri Clark will be organizing the

event. If you can swing a putter, you can play in this event. It’s a

guaranteed fun time. We will have a rose for all the ladies and the

bar and restaurant will be open for your favorite food and

beverages. The cost of the tournament is $10 a player. If you wish to

play, text Steve at 7028061294 or sign up at the club.

Also, don’t forget to keep a date open for the weekends of March 24

and March 31 to play in our first handicap tournament at Durango

Hills Golf Club. We will be playing to post 2 scores during that period.

Sunshine report

The flu swamped emergency rooms nationwide

as the Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention reported a record number of cases

this season, and the German-American Club

substantiates those numbers.

Jesse Cavazos and JoAnn Milton spent time in

the hospital with the flu, and are recuperating

at home.

Alwine Cushman and Ramona Salatorio were in

the hospital with pneumonia, and are doing

much better at home.

On a sad note, Stan Ruben passed away on Jan.

18. Our condolences go out to his family.

Elmer Whittaker had a heart attack and is

recovering in the hospital.

The German-American Club wishes a speedy

recovery for our ailing members.

Marsha K leads jazz night 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at

the German-American Social Club of Nevada,

where the drinks are cheap and living is easy.

Guest singers are welcome to come out of the

shower.

When it comes to bartenders, the German-

American Club has the best, hands down, led by

bar manager Christina. We like to order top-

shelf liquor just to watch her stretch.
