The great ones endure, and GLADYS KNIGHT has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the last 50 years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed #1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B, and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance.

Georgia-born, Knight began performing gospel music at age four in the Mount Mariah Baptist Church and sang as a guest soloist with the Morris Brown College Choir. Three years later, she won the grand prize on television’s “Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour,” and by the next year her mother created the group that would be known as Gladys Knight and the Pips. The iconic group went on to produce hits such as “Every Beat of my Heart,” “If I Were Your Woman,” “Best Thing to Ever Happen to Me,” and of course, “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

The Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of famer is also a humanitarian. Her second album brought her back to her jazzier, blues roots. Billboard described how “Lucy’s a ball; equally appreciable for fans of melodic sing-song baubles and highbrow aficionados of finely honed musical composition.”

The Lake welcomes multi-platinum selling and Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter LEANN RIMES to its stage. At 13, LeAnn had her first hit with “Blue” in 1996, which landed her a Best New Artist award, making her the youngest recipient ever of a Grammy. Additionally, she has received 14 Billboard Music Awards, two World Music Awards, and three Academy of Country Music Awards.

Of her 42 charting singles, LeAnn’s song “How Do I Live” still ranks #4 of Billboard’s “Greatest Love Songs of All Time,” and holds the record for being the second longest charting song ever on Billboard’s “Hot 100 Songs.” LeAnn Rimes continues to evolve musically. Summer Parking at LMVThe North Beach parking lot is a fast and efficient way to drop off and pick up. It also improves traffic flow and allows easy exit from LMV during the busy summer season.The roundabout drop-off area provides close access to the picnic areas, concert bowl, and beach. The blue cart storage area is available curbside for member use. The new ADA-compliant parking area is adjacent to the park for easy access. The new exit lane from the parking lot reduces congestion and improves safety in this heavily trafficked area.

Due to high attendance at LMV Concerts and other summer holidays and events, the Board of Directors and staff recommend early arrival and carpooling when possible.

This large scale screen along with a state-of-the-art projection system is a big hit for our summer movies.

To provide you with the best possible picture on LMV’s giant screen, movies will begin once it gets dark; generally between 8:15-8:45 pm. Please note that movies in July will begin later due to the longer summer days. Please bring low-backed chairs as a courtesy to those sitting behind you. We Need YOU! LMVA Delegate Elections Coming UpLMVA District Delegates are an important part of the political structure of LMVA. District Delegates elect members to the Board of Directors each fall and represent their respective district’s interests regarding important issues that may be discussed during the year.There are 81 communities that make up the Lake Mission Viejo Association Delegate Districts, and each district has a Delegate who represents it. The time commitment for a Delegate is not excessive and typically involves attending board meetings once a month along with the annual meeting of the Delegates in October of each year.

The process of becoming a Delegate involves collecting proxies from 25% of a district community in support of a member to represent them. If you are interested, please contact the Lake Membership Office (949) 770-1313, ext. 215, and we can help you with this process.

The annual Lake Mission Viejo Association Delegate Elections are scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Please use the LMVA District Delegate Election Proxy enclosed in your assessment bill to help elect a Delegate to represent your LMVA district. Whether you support a current Delegate for your district or wish to vote for a replacement in an empty district, please note that there is a 25% quorum requirement to hold a District Delegate election.

In order for this proxy to be valid, it must be submitted to LMVA no later than 24 hours prior to the Delegate Election Meeting.

If you are interested in representing your district as a Delegate, please plan on attending the Delegate Elections on October 2nd in order to run for Delegate.

If you did not receive a proxy and live in Sub Association to LMVA, your district elects its own Delegates during their annual Board of Director elections.

Plan Ahead for LMV Summer Fun!Members can reserve Party Boats and Picnic Tables online up to 30 days in advance.Simply go to www.LakeMissionViejo.org, click on Rental Reservations – Party Boats or Picnic Tables – and follow the link to the appropriate Party Boat or Picnic Table you wish to reserve. Party Boats are $25 per hour plus a 6% reservation fee. A few boats are still available for walk-up reservations for members who choose to reserve on-site at the Tackle Box.

Members can reserve either one or two Party Boats for 1 or 2 hours per rental. Up to two picnic tables can be rented for an entire day, also up to 30 days in advance. There are 22 tables available for reservation in our Concert Bowl area.

Certain Black-Out days/times apply to both Party Boat and Picnic Table Reservations. For example: Picnic Tables cannot be reserved on Concert days, and the last Party Boat is rented at 2:00 pm on all Concert days. Please call Lake Services at (949) 770-1313, ext.216 if you have questions about the reservation system.

Members have plenty of payment options at their fingertips. Besides the old fashioned method of “write a check and mail it,” members can manage their accounts with a few clicks of a mouse.

Access to the LMVA member web portal is fast and easy. Go to the LMV website at www.LakeMissionViejo.org and click on the “Make a Payment” tab on the right side of any page.

LMVA Guest Policies for Concert Days

Early Birds Get a Favorite Spot!Optimize your chances of getting a good seat at LMV’s summer concerts. LMVA staff has many years of experience assisting members with the Concert Lottery Process outlined here. The entrance gate to the North Beach facility will open as usual at 6:00 am. Concert Bowl area access will commence at approximately 6:30 am. Members accessing the facility by car will be allowed to park in the Fisherman’s parking lot and assemble in the Administration lot along with the pedestrian traffic prior to 6:30 am. Members arriving by boat will be allowed to tie up to the dock in front of the Maintenance building. Access to the Concert Bowl area will be conducted by a lottery-style system; therefore there is no advantage to lining up prior to 6:00 am.The Lottery Process is as follows:1. Members only! You must show your valid and current LMVA

membership card to receive a wristband.2. Randomly numbered wristbands will be distributed upon the opening of

the facility.

3. Wristband pick-up will be at designated locations in the main parking lot.4. One wristband per person. It must be attached and worn.5. Distribution will continue until designated time.6. One blanket per person for the initial entrance into the bowl. Chairs will

not be allowed until after the initial entrance process is complete.7. At a designated time, randomly selected groups of numbers will be called.

Once called, members will proceed to a holding area. Wristbands will be verified and then the group will be allowed to set up in the park.

8. This process continues until all groups have been called.9. At the conclusion of the set up process, the park will open for general use

and chairs may be brought in at this time. Chairs abandoned along the sidewalks adjacent to the North Beach facility entrance will be confiscated.

Concert Rules to Play By1. All members must have

LMVA I.D. card.2. No glass containers for drinks

or food. All coolers, baskets and bags are checked upon entry to the concert/park area.

3. Concert guest policies apply: Limit of 4 guests per household; $15 per person guest fee, any age.

4. Bring short and low-back beach chairs only…please.

5. Get your spot early. These events are very popular.

6. Remain seated once the concert begins.

7. No tents or canopies after 6:00 pm.

8. Be courteous to those around you. No smoking in the center bowl area.

9. No personal barbecues. Use barbecues in designated areas only.

10. Please pick up after yourself. Trash cans are available.

11. Use minimum space on lawn as there are many people to seat. Use small blankets and towels. No ground tarps allowed.

12. The area in front of the stage is not opened until stage set-up is completed.

13. When parking lots fill, cars will only be allowed to drop-off passengers. Overflow parking is available on public streets.

Don’t Leave Home Without It!Don’t forget your membership card when you plan to visit the Lake. It doesn’t matter if it is your first visit in a long time or if yours is a familiar face at the front gates; your LMVA membership picture I.D. badge is required to gain entrance. Not only does this special card allow you access into the facilities and the boat rental station, it also serves as your free ticket to seven great concert events each season. Please remember that all concert lottery attendees must present a valid membership card in order to take part in the concert seating lottery. LMVA’s picture I.D. badge references both the property as well as the individual through a barcode system and is issued to all members eight years-old and up. All members are required to show their membership badges when entering the facilities. If you arrive at the Gate without it, you will be turned away. A member who has lost or misplaced his/her badge but has other identification proving residency (i.e. Driver’s License) can purchase a temporary pass for $10 at the Gate. This pass is good for ten days and can be exchanged for a new badge (if you cannot locate your original badge) at the Membership Office. If you bring your original badge to the Membership Office within ten days, you can obtain a refund of the price of the temporary pass.

Most members have been very cooperative as we have encouraged staff to be diligent in checking membership identification at the gates. Make sure you always have your membership badge readily available when approaching the friendly staff at the LMVA Gates or within the park facilities. The Board of Directors and Management would like to thank members for their efforts to help make LMV a safe and secure environment.
