This Soul-winning guide has been prepared for Members of the Church of
Christ, who are or would like to become involved in seeking the Lost. Our
goal is to provide precise information, in a clear, simple to understand
format, in as many languages, as God wills.
Leading Others to Christ
With or Without Jesus Eternity is Forever
This guide is provided freely to ALL in the name of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Introduction
This guide includes straightforward information to assist those outside the
Body of Christ, in being born again and to show the narrow way of the cross
that leads to salvation and eternal Life. Practical methods of explaining, the
Message of Christ and the Good News of the Gospel, using various
approaches and techniques
Important Note: These materials have been prepared in a
modified outline form; in order to, quickly convey the concepts, ideas
and suggestions in a minimum number of words. For example,

whenever possible, short phases are used in lieu of complete
sentences.
Leading others to Christ is the Great Commission that
Jesus gave to his followers, which includes all members ofthe Church of Christ. This is an URGENT CALL to its
Members to finally break the silence and begin to bring
Gods simple Plan of Salvation to a dying world.MATTHEW 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the
end of the world. Amen.
As Christians, personal evangelism or proclaiming the
Good News of the gospel is the one of the major functionsof our work for Christ. People cannot obey the gospel, if we
do not share it. Peter asked:1 PETER 4:17
For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house
of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] ofthem that obey not the gospel of God?
Paul clearly answers that question:2 THESSALONIANS 1:8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God,
and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Please carefully consider the following:
Each Christian must evaluate what he or she is really doing to
reach the world for Christ.
Most agree that if the church is to grow rapidly, that it will be
through the efforts of its individual Members.
-

Each Member should accept the responsibility of personal
evangelism, which means that all believers stand in HIS stead.
The vast majority concurs and is willing, but many feel they are
unqualified, due a lack of training, to undertake this task.
The purpose of this manual is to provide the necessary
information, in an organized manner, to assist these Members in
overcoming this widespread dilemma, within our Brotherhood
and:
To encourage group training to all Members
To suggest that a simplified version be taught in Sundaymorning youth classes, in order to overcome our current
predicament in the future.
In order to be an effective soul-winner one needs the
following:
Having a Heart that is Right with God and a strong desire to see that people
are saved
Organized step by step plans of action, including suggested sources of
potential prospects
Materials that present the Truth in a clear and meaningful manner to both
members of other Faiths and all non-members
To personally develop a working knowledge of effective persuasion
techniques
If you determine to take the cold information from this manualand add your warm caring attitude, and if you are willing to ask
people the Crunch Question, (which is not difficult) then no doubtyou will see souls saved, to the GLORY of GOD.

Preparing for Personal Evangelism
Pray for open and willing hearts, for wisdom and strength
to pursue opportunities to win souls for Christ, to help youin your presentation and for other assistance you may
require from God, the Father.JAMES 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all
[men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Carefully study the materials provided
SUGGESTIONS FOR GETTING STARTED FAST
Create copies of Six Simple Steps to be saved, it is suggested thatthese be folded over and carried in your personal Bible. (See
Appendix)
Six Simple Steps to be SavedStep #1
Hear the WordFaith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17)
Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6)
Step #2
Truly Believe in Jesus as the Son of GodJesus links belief to salvation (Mark 16:15-16)
Account of the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-40)
-

5/113
Step #3
Repent of your SinsJesus warns that all sinners will perish unless they repent. (Luke 13:1-5)
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but
the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)
Step #4
Confess Jesus before menWhosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also
before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before
men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew
10:32-33)
The eunuch voiced his belief in Jesus as the Son of God prior to being
baptized. (Acts 8:37)
Step #5Be BaptizedRepent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)
Baptism is a requirement for salvation (Mark 16:16)
Burial in water (1 Corinthians 12:13)
Assures us that anyone in Christ is a new creation; old things have passed
away and all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Step #6Live a faithful life until deathFear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall
cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have
tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown
of life. (Revelation 2:10)
Obtain and mark an (or several) inexpensive (nice softback New Testaments or Bibles can be purchased for a
nominal sum) New Testament with a pen or pencil, asfollowings:
Begin by writing Six Simple steps to be Saved and Romans 10:17
on the fly page of the Bible(s) your plan to use.
Along Romans 10:17 note Hebrews 11:6
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
6/113
Along Hebrews 11:6 note Mark 16:15-16
Along Mark 16:15-16 note Act 8:26-40
Along Act 8:26-40 note Luke 13:1-5
Along Luke 13:1-5 note 2 Corinthians 7:10
Along 2 Corinthians 7:10 note Matthew 10:32-33Along Matthew 10:32-33 note Acts 8:37
Along Acts 8:37 note Acts 2:38
Along Acts 2:38 note Mark 16:16
Along Mark 16:16 note 1 Corinthians 12:13
Along 1 Corinthians 12:13 note 2 Corinthians 5:17
Along 2 Corinthians 5:17 note Revelation 2:10
Along Revelation 2:10, write the word Invitation, as reminder to
invite them to be baptized, attend services or arrange an
appointment to formally study the Bible.
It is recommended that you carry the marked New
Testament or Bible with you at all times, as you never know
when or where an opportunity to explain Gods Plan may
develop. If you are thinking about evangelism, you willnaturally talk about it. So, be ready to unfold and explain it
at any time.
Making use of a marked Bible makes it easier for you andyour Prospect to focus on what the Bible says about
salvation, since you are not required to remember the verse
references.
Consider using an easy to understand contemporary
translation, as your Prospect(s) may have limited Biblical
knowledge.
After making your presentation and making anappointment for a future study, depending upon your
progress and feelings, consider presenting a marked version
to your potential new convert. If so, write, in the presents
of your Prospect(s), your name and telephone number, as
-

7/113
well as, Church of Christ, the name of the Minister,
address, telephone number and schedule of Sunday servicesof the Church on the inside of the cover. While you are
making note of this information, make clear that you or theMinister are available to assist the Prospect(s) at any time
and that they are cordially invited to attend services of the
Church.
It is suggested that you also print copies of A Time for
Honest Reflection (See Appendix) and carry with your
folded training materials, so that you will have a persuasionor closing tool available, if needed.
Prepare further by:
Obtaining a spiral bound notebook that you carry with youat all times, to note such items as names & addresses, dates
of contact, questions, referrals etc. In other words, create
a notebook that contains all the information related to yoursoul winning efforts.
Review, select and print resources from the available webpages included within this site. Set up a three-ring
notebook with dividers, so you have your reference
materials in one manual.
Adding additional information and notes, as needed
Developing confidence and your courage by perfectingyour knowledge of the Word, practicing your presentation,by real world experience and prayer
Developing an attitude of love, concern and interest for
the souls of all non-believers who touch your life, so that
-

they may learn the Truth of Gods Word, have the
opportunity to obey it and the Hope of going to Heaven. Youcould be their last chance to make their Hearts Right with
God.
Remembering to always ask for referrals to others, that
your Prospect(s) believe might be responsive to the Good
News of the Gospel.
Sources of Potential Prospects
Most individuals we come in contact with are among the lost andare in immediate need of your assistance in understanding theTruth and the Good News of the Gospel.
There are two types of individuals who are outside
the Body of Christ
Members of other Faiths(Believers who are not Members ofthe Church of Christ) Most of these are sincere individuals who
have been misinformed.
These individuals are among the easiest to arrange a Bible study
with, as they view it as an opportunity to convert you to theirFaith.
Other Prospects - Not currently active in any form of
organized religion, commonly known as the unchurched
These individuals are further divided into people with
whom you are acquainted with and the balance of the
population.
Those with whom you are acquainted with can be further
classified into those you have a close personal relationship
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
9/113
moving along the scale to those who could be termed as passing
acquaintances.
The only differences in these Prospects are the methods
suggested in making the initial appointment to formally studythe Bible.
What you will be asking for is the opportunity to unfold and
explain in very simple terms, Gods Plan of Salvation and basis of
our belief that we are members of His One True Church.
Developing Your Personal List of Prospects
List the names, addresses and telephone numbers of yourpersonal Prospects, by type of Prospect in your notebook.
Possible sources of additional Prospects include, but aredefinitely not limited to:
Immediate family
Other relatives
Fellow workers

Friendship evangelism works, sow the seed of the gospel
by being friendly, kind and being open about your faith.
Acquaintances
Individuals in crisis or undergoing trauma
Such as a separation, divorce, illness, fire, recent death
of child or spouse etc. Consider mailing a note offeringto study the Bible with those who have recently
experienced such an event.
Passages from Keys to the Scriptures may be useful in
preparing the note and youre follow-up. In times such as
these, sometimes people begin to realize just how
-

10/113
vulnerable they really are. In many cases, they are
looking for assistance from God, which provides you an
opportunity to discuss the status of their soul(s).
Friends and relatives of Members
Children of Members, who are not currently attending servicesSpouses of Members, who are not currently attending services
In regards to the three forgoing potential sources, a
simple device is to invite them to eat with you and your
spouse, in order to create a relationship. It is suggested
that you ask for permission first to avoid confusion.
Friends who attend youth functions with our youth
These provide an often over looked source of contacts.
It is suggested that you ask for permission first to avoid
confusion.Visitors to Worship services
Their attendance indicates an interest in the study of
the Bible. It suggested that this effort be coordinated
through the Elders or leadership.

12/113
Have you ever wondered why some churches will spend
thousands of dollars to send a couple of missionaries half
way around the world, when no one from the church has
taken five minutes, to speak to the people living thirty
feet away, across the street?
And many others please e-mail your ideas, thoughts or
comments to [email protected]. I will forward
them to other members of Diplomats for Christ and possibly
include in future revisions.
After carefully studying this list, your mind should be filled
with many potentialProspects and ideas.
Take time to make notes in your spinal notebook, immediately,
before any thoughts slip away.
It is suggested that you limit your list of active Prospects to
four to six, so you will be able to focus your efforts.
It is suggested that husband and wife teams use the same list.
Posting your list, such as on a mirror, may serve as a helpful
reminder.
Sharing the Truth
Members of other Faiths
Select one or two Prospects, from your list, who are Member(s)
of another Faith.
Research the doctrine of the prospects religion.
Compare the Doctrine and practices of the Prospects
denomination or religion with the modern Church of Christ
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
13/113
and the early Church using the material provided in Only
One Church is HIS Church or other resources contained inthis website and the Bible.
The Internet is a source of the doctrines of various
denominations and religions.
Many denominations publish a statement of belief, which may be
available at the local church.
You may find it beneficial to prepare a written outline of thedifferences, with Bible references to support the position of
the Church of Christ.
It is suggested you limit Prospects to one denomination orreligion at a time, in order to avoid confusion.
You may find it to your advantage to specialize in one large
denomination or religion.
Consider approaching members of denominations and religions
that are in public conflict (i.e. election of homosexual leaders
etc.)
Arranging the first appointmentAssuming you know the individual, all that is usually required
is that you call and state that you are interest in exploring
the similarities and differences between the two Churches,at a convenience time.
Avoid discussing the topic further on the telephone.
Simply suggest two times and dates and ask which would be
more convenience, then set a neutral public meeting place, where you may discuss these issues privately. It is strongly suggested that your prospects be of the same
sex and that you meet with them, privately in a neutral
location, one on one.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
14/113
Teams
It is suggested that Members of other Faiths beapproached one on one. This should be a mature discussion
and we do not wish to make the prospect feel that he or sheis being double-teamed.
An exception would be a husband and wife team or two
individuals of the same sex, in the event that you this in the
only way you feel you can take part in this important
activity. Try to get over it.In these cases, only one member of the team is to take the
active role.
Another exception would be when your prospect wishes toinclude additional individuals from their Faith.
Discussions with Members of other Faiths
Be prepared for this almost universal question:
Is it true that the Church of Christ believes that only its
Members will go to Heaven?
A suggested response is:
It does not make any difference what either of us believes.
What is important are what Jesus and His Apostles in the NewTestament taught.
We simply believe that following carefully the instructions and
commandments of Jesus and His Apostles is required to be
saved:
References: MATTHEW 7:14, MATTHEW 28:19-20,JOHN 14:15, 2 JOHN 1:9
Direct the conversation to a discussion centered on thedifferences between the two Churches.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
15/113
Ask a question such as Why do you believe that your
denomination or faith is HIS Church?
Listen carefully and take detailed notes
Be prepared for the question Why do you believe that the
Church of Christ is HIS Church?
Pull copies of The Biblical Foundation of the Church of Christ
which available in the Appendix or other resource and proceed.
The primary objective of your presentation is tohighlight the critical differences between the his church
and THE One and Only Church that Jesus personally builtwith His own hands or His One True Church (Romans 16:16).
Use your detailed notes and possibly one of the following to
begin to build the case for the Church of our Lord.
The following resources were designed specifically to bring into
focus the central issues on this topic with the type Prospect(s)
Millions may Worship in Vain, Is your church HIS Church? Or
How to find the Right Church
The secondary objective is to strengthen in the mind of
your Prospect(s) that the Church of Christ is based solely
on the rock solid Word of God, without exception, using
your materials or the resources supplied and the Bible.
Consider the use of The Fundamentals found in the first part
of His One True Church or Men and brethren, what shall we
do? found in From Now to Eternity.
The greater the amount of specific detail, the better

Points to Remember
Dialog should be carried on in a logical unemotional, loving
manner.
This is NOT a contest, but a QUEST for the TRUTH.
CONTROL THE TONE AND VOLUME of your voice. This is a
friendly discussion, NOT A DEBATE.
ALWAYS MAINTAIN A CALM COMPOSURE and NEVER
ARGUE. In the event, the discussion begins to become heated,
remind your prospect(s) (and yourself) that it makes no
difference what feelings or emotions, this discussion may haveuncovered, as long as the singular objective is to clearly and
totally define the Truth, based solely upon the Word of God.
(John 17:17) Then offer to reschedule at a more convenience
time.
In the event, anyone involved in unable to regain a calm attitude
within a few minutes STOP and again suggest the arrangement
of a future appointment.
The beliefs of a lifetime, plus the recognition that loved ones
who have passed on and at this very moment are likely only
beginning their eternal sufferings may produce an immediate
and extremely powerful reaction.
Watch and be prepared. Usually all that required to overcome
this hindrance is to allow the individual(s) time to recover from
the shock of his or her realization and to clarify the fact that,
in the eyes of God, each person is, in absolutely control his or
her ultimate destiny.
Prepare to spend substantial time in this effort.
Study with the individual as long as they show a sincere effort
to find the Truth.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
17/113
At the end of the session, set another appointment for further
discussion and study.
Handling questions you are unable to answer
If you do not know the answer to a question, simply make a
written note.
Ask if they have any other questions.
Set date and time to get back with them. Then search for
answer(s) or request assistance and follow up, when properly
prepared.
Your ultimate goal is to persuade or convince yourProspect that he is not on the path to Heaven and that he
or she should convert and become a Member of the Church
of Christ.
Use only the softest of persuasion techniques, as these
individual already believe. They only require instruction in the
Truth.
Always keep in mind that his convictions are just as strong as
ours are. Therefore, the most successful method is not to
become argumentative, but to consistently use logic and reason,
based solely on the Word of God.
Understand that many active members of denominations are
often satisfied with their human traditions and are not
receptive to the pure and simple gospel of Christ or that theirservices are simply more fun than those that are defined in the
Bible.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
18/113
If your Prospect begins to develop an interest in the
Church of Christ or to question his or her Faith, take theopportunity to;
Invite your Prospect(s) to Church services with you.
If successful, introduce them to the Minister, Elders, Deacons
and other Members. Always show love and respect.
Be willing to attend services of their Church as a courtesy.
Take detailed notes regarding the service for future
comparison and discussion.
Continue the discussion and prayers.
Encourage your prospect(s) to continue their attendance
and to be baptized, as well as, becoming active Member(s)
of the Church of Christ.
All Other Prospects
This type of Prospects are usually not currently active in any
form of organized religion and are commonly known as the
unchurched.
Classify Prospects.
The first task is developing a written list potential Prospects
list, dividing it into people with whom you are acquainted with
and those that you do not really know.
The second task is to rate the individual Prospects with whom
you have some form of relationship.
Those with whom are acquainted with can be further classified
and rated into those you have a close personal relationship,
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
19/113
which would have a rating of ten (10) with a passing causal
acquaintance with a rating of one (1).
The balance of your Prospects, are people you do not really
know and therefore a rating is unnecessary
The primary reason for classifying Prospects is to determine the
best and most effective method in making the initial appointmentto formally study the Bible.
If you have not done so already, review and study the
training resources
Select Four to Six Unchurched Prospects
Never be ashamed to discuss Christ, the gospel and their soul
with a relative, friend, acquaintance or any other living person.
Reference: ROMANS 1:16
Classify the Prospect to be approached using your
ratings.
A rating of from five to ten indicates individuals with whom you
have a reasonable close to a very close relationship. These
individuals will make up your A list
A rating of from one to four indicates individuals with whom youhave causal to a somewhat close relationship. These individuals
will make up your B list.
All others will make up your C list.
Determine the training materials you plan to use with
each Prospect.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
20/113
This is decision should be made based upon all the available
information you have regarding the individual, including, but not
limited to, the amount of free time they have available, the
level of their Biblical knowledge, the level of personal
difficulties they are currently facing etc.
Arrange the Appointment for a formal Bible study
For those new to soul winning, this step is usually the most
difficult. After you have arranged a few, you may wonder why
is seemed so difficult in the beginning.
The key to arranging appointments is to carefully select the
time, place and being prepared.
The methods employed will usually vary with by type and the
classification of each individual.
Jude points out that it is necessary to approach individuals
using various approaches
Reference: JUDE 1:22-23
The following are suggested methods of making appointments, based upon their classification.
Remember that the process can only start when you request an
appointment to study the Bible.
Do not be intimidated, you have excellent training materials in
hand, all of which have Biblical support. Additionally, you have a
solid knowledge of the requirements to be saved and God is on
your side.
In addition, most unchurched individuals are novices in religious
manners.
The only element remaining is for YOU to add your love and
concern for lost souls. There is an old salesmans saying that has
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
21/113
direct application to this important work They dont care how
much we know until they know how much we care!
A list Appointments can usually be made successfully
either by telephone or in person. Reasonably close friendsor relatives will usually agree to a session based upon yourrelationship. Assume they will meet with you! For example,
you could telephone an individual on you A list and state
the following:
(Name of Prospect), I recently acquired a very interesting,
concise Bible Study Guide that I would like to run through with
you. I am free tonight and tomorrow night, which would be bestfor you? (After you have received a response in regard to the
evening, immediately set the time.) 7 or 7:30
B list Appointments can be made either by telephone
or in person depending upon the level of your relationship.
It is suggested that you make the appointment in person
using a direct or indirect approach. The direct approach is
to simply ask for the appointment. For example you couldstate the following:
(Name of Prospect), I would very much like to spend two or
three hour with you in order to get to know you better and to
share with you my beliefs, so you can get to know me. It will be
enjoyable. Would tomorrow afternoon work for you or would
you prefer the following day? (After they have selected the
day, set the time)
The indirect approach, which includes a pre-appointmentmeeting, in which you open or direct the conversation with
spiritual oriented questions
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
22/113
This approach is generally recommended for all C list
Prospects.
The Indirect Approach
Note: This is definitely a causal meeting. It could be at the
market, on the street, at the park, after the PTA meeting etc.
After briefly engaging in general conversation
move the discussion into a spiritual context with a
question.
Suggested Neutral questions to open a conversation, launch apresentation or to move the conversion into a spiritual context
What is your vision of Heaven? or What is your vision of
Heaven and Hell?
Follow up question What steps are you taking to insure your
place in Heaven?
Have you ever considered the meaning of the words forever or
eternity?Follow up statements/question Everlasting Never ending
Frightening isnt it?
MATTHEW 25
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand,
Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels:
Avoid harsh direct questions or statements such as;
Where will YOU spend eternity, Heaven or Hell?
YOU are going to Hell.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
23/113
This approach will automatically raise the natural defense
systems and you will NOT be heard.
Avoid questions that can be answered YES or NO,
responses many times; provide details of the prospectsattitudes and state of mind. Most people have an opinion
and their answers will guide you in how to proceed.
Important: After you have asked your question. Listen intently
- Show your deep interest or concern
Comment on their answer, to your opening question.Reference: JAMES 1:9
Your primary objective with further general conversion isto determine the types of problems your potential Prospect
is currently facing, particularly those which are the most
pressing or difficult to solve.
Your secondary objective is to mentally gather additionalinformation by engaging the prospect in a spiritually
oriented conversation in order to determine their personalsituations, such as:
What is their general attitudes regarding religion
Do they have hatred in their hearts, if so why.
Explore prior church involvement.
Other related personal information.
Note: Immediately after this meeting make detailed notes.
Preparing for the Indirect Presentation
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
24/113
Within 48 hours, it is suggested:
That you call and offer the prospect a benefit for taking the
time to speak with you, such as, I have been thinking about the
problem,(their problem)we discussed.
I have come up with some ideas and possible solutions andwould like to meet with you again, at your convenience, to share
them with you.
Are you available at (time) on next (day and date)? If not, ask
them to make a suggestion.
Once the time and date is set, ask, Would (suggest a neutrallocation, such as a coffee shop, in order to avoid distractions)
be convenient?
If not, ask them to make a suggestion. Complete the
arrangements for the meeting.
Complete your list of possible ideas and solutions to their
immediate needs or problems. The last and most important is
seeking the help of God, which leads into your presentation.
Select and copy the training resources you wish to have
available.
At the appointed time, discuss each of the possible worldly
ideas and solutions to their immediate needs or problems with
your Prospect(s) from memory.
After you completed your worldly suggestions:
Pause for a moment and then say let us pray and then proceed
with a detailed prayer asking for God to assist your Prospect in
his or her problem and that He open their heart and mind.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
25/113
After the prayer, IMMEDITATELY START YOURPRESENTATION using a list of passages from the Biblethat relate to the solution or understanding of the problem
from your independent point of view.

Instructional ObjectivesImportant Note: The next four points could also be defined as your
MISSION as a fearless Evangelist. One of fundamental purposes of
this website is to explain these topics from different points of views.
1. To define clearly and specifically why we believe that ALL
Members of other faiths are walking Satans the wide roadto everlasting punishment in the Lake of Fire.
2.To firmly establish and be certain that the Unchurched
Prospect clearly understands that he or she is a sinner in
serious peril and is currently traveling on the wide road to
eternal punishment in the lake of fire.
3. To provide ALL Prospect(s) detailed information regarding
why the Church of Christ is the One True Church that
Jesus built with His own hands.
4.To formally guide ALL Prospect(s) through the study ofGods Word, clearly defining the simple steps to be saved.

Your Primary purpose is to properly instruct and
persuade your Prospect(s) to be baptized immediately.
Make the leadership of Church aware of your efforts andhave arrangements in place, in order to avoid confusion and
disappointment.
Suggestion: Consider setting aside Wednesday afternoon for
your soul winning efforts, which would provide the option ofoffering immediate baptism at the Wednesday night service.
If successful, continue to encourage, instruct, pray and
study with the new Member(s). Determine causes if theyregularly miss services.
Your Secondary Objective is to invite them to the
services of the Church.
Offer to drive - If driving, call shortly before to confirm orremind.
Before or after services introduce them to the Minister, some
of the Elders, Deacons, Members, possibly with similar
interests.
Continue the discussion, prayer, to encourage prospect(s)

Of course, any Bible is completely acceptable; however, certain Bibles offer unique advantages as a training aid.
A parallel Bible, which contains multiple versions of the Bible, isvery useful, if a Prospect is having difficulties understanding
the meaning of a passage. Can also be useful in resolving
misunderstandings
A study Bible, such as those used by many ministers and seriousstudents of the Bible, contain many learning and training aids,
such as, center or side column reference, topical and Bible
concordance, harmony of the Gospels, maps, charts and related
information.
Download the following free Bible programs resources. The
programs at http://www.e-sword.net/ contain numerous
translations, commentaries, dictionaries, and much more. Our
favorite computer based Bible study suite for desktops.
The resources available at http://www.eveningdew.com/ aresomewhat easier to install and use, but less information is

Be prepared for common questions and negative
statements, such as:
Is it true that the Church of Christ believes that only its
members will go to Heaven?
A suggested response is:
It makes no difference what I believe, what you believe or what
any other person believes. What are important, are the
teachings of Jesus and His Apostles in the New Testament.
-

We simply believe that following carefully the instructions and
commandments of Jesus and His Apostles is a requirement to
be saved.
Do you doubt my sincerity?
A suggested response is:
No, I am quite sure are sincere, however, it will take more than
sincerity to get us into Heaven.
What about members of primitive tribes, who had never
seen a Bible or heard of Jesus?
A suggested response is:
That is an interesting question, the answer to which, only God
knows.
However, the important issue is what is going happen to those
who did have an opportunity to know Gods Will.
Would you allow me to share with you the simple requirementsto enter the Kingdom of God and live in Heaven forever?
Note the technique of adding a question to your answer.
The church is just full of a brunch of old hypocrites, who
pray on Sunday and then begin cheating and lying bright and
early Monday morning.
A suggested response is:
Hypocrites go out to lunch, work or run businesses, go vacation, drive cars and have fun.

It would be impossible to provide written suggestion for every
question a sinner might ask.
However, it is relatively simple to reply to most after you havestudied the samples provided using the Bible as your reference.
1 PETER 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always
to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of
the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Develop your technique by working out your answers to
the following common statements and questions, using themethods used above.
Everyone get salvation the old fashioned way they earn it.
Dont you believe that somebody does more good than bad then
they will be okay?
Arent religions and churches all about same?
I heard it on the radio. Brief is all that is required to

The Bible Study Session
This section includes suggestions for conducting the Bible studysession and the presentation of the Sample Lesson Plan.
All training should be completed within a comfortable time framefor all individuals involved. At the very moment, for any reason,
that you become fatigued or if anyone begins to show signs of
inattention, it is time to terminate the current training session
and make another appointment.
The Sample Lesson Plan was designed to provide those with
limited knowledge, the steps required in becoming a child of God,
a brief overview of the Church of Christ and to persuade them to
give their lives to the service of our Lord and Savior by carefullyobeying His straightforward commandments.
Under normal conditions, this material should be taught over two
or more sessions.
Have the Prospect(s) read all passages.
The object is to deeply involve them in the all-important study of
the Word of God.
Allowing the Prospects to read the verses will enables he or she
to discover the Truth, holds their attention, gives them theopportunity to experience involvement and become comfortablewith a Bible and has a much greater impact.

Set an upbeat tone, you are sharing the good news of theGospel with your prospect. Two popular saying areKnowledge is Power and Enthusiasm is Knowledge on Fire.
Having prepared your heart and mind properly, you willspeak with boldness and confidence.
1 PETER 4:11
IF ANY MAN SPEAK, [let him speak] AS THE ORACLES OF
GOD; if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which
God giveth: THAT GOD IN ALL THINGS MAY BE GLORIFIED
THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, TO WHOM BE PRAISE AND
DOMINION FOR EVER AND EVER. Amen.
Reminder: As you proceed to explain the steps required
to be saved, the Prospect(s) will usually develop respect for
you, as you are speaking as the oracle of God. Speaking onlyHis Words on behalf of a soul in need of Gods saving Grace,
will result in you attaining a great power, which is the power
of God.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ARE TO MAINTAINYOUR OWN HUMILITY, AT ALL TIMES.
ROMANS 12:3
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is

to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to
every man the measure of faith.

You may wish to begin the first session by stressing that We only
speak where the Bible speaks and remain completely silent where the
Bible is silent and allow the Scriptures to guide us as to what God
demands we do.
Then involve them by asking a question, such as.
Do you accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God?
Do you believe that God expects us to carefully follow each and
every commandment?
Do you want to go to Heaven?
Ask additional questions regarding personal religious background,
particularly if they claim to have been saved by the Sinners Prayer or
similar falsehood, so you may prepare and squarely address the
specific false teaching, in a later session.
Be certain, by the end of the first session, that your Prospect(s)
clearly understand that they are carrying an enormous burden of
unforgiven sin and are doomed to eternal, everlasting, never ending,
indescribable suffering and punishment in the fires of Hell.
Seek out any special unfulfilled physical or spiritual needs - Makenotes, consider adding to future opening prayers
Offer to pray for them, as it clearly shows your personal concern
for their immortal Souls.

What must I do to be SAVED?This is the most important question that anyone can ever ask!
With or Without Jesus Eternity is Forever
MATTHEW 1626 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his
own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
The answer is actually quite simple.
In order for any of us to be saved we must carefully and strictly follow all
the specific commandments, instructions, warnings and examples set by
Jesus and his Apostles or simply Follow Jesus everyday.
Reference(s): MATTHEW 7:13-14, JOHN 14:15, 2 JOHN 1:9, JUDE 1:3
It is absolutely imperative that we carefully obey the Will of God, before
the day we die or Judgment Day arrives, either of which could occur at any
time.
Reference(s): MATTHEW 24:35-36, JAMES 4:14
The following is an overview of these commandments, instructions, warnings
and examples, which is intended to assist the reader in understanding and
organizing his or her study of the Holy Scriptures and finding the narrowway that leads to eternal life in Heaven.
Jesus was sent to earth by his Father to teach all men Gods Will and His
Plan of Salvation or Redemption for all mankind.

Salvation comes through Jesus, our Lord and Savior, who died on the cruel
cross for the sins of all people and is our only source of salvation.

Specifically, what is the meaning of HEARING?
Carefully listening to the words of a minister in a service of the Church of
Christ or by studying the Bible in-depth, which teaches all we need to know
regarding God and his Will for our lives.
After we have acquired our Faith, we become interested in the Teachings ofJesus, because we truly BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God.

We must REPENT of our sins and admit that we have sinned against God.
True repentance is a change of heart in our attitude regarding sin. The
Greek word for repentance is metanoeo which means to change your mind
or purpose, forsaking evil and following righteousness. A change of heart
that desires to do that which is right and it sorrowful when its does thingsthat are wrong.

CORINTHIANS 7:10, LUKE 15:10
We must CONFESS Jesus before men, just as the eunuch voiced his belief

We must be BAPTIZED.
What does it mean to be BAPTIZED?
Websters defines BAPTISM as the sprinkling, pouring water on an individual
or the immersion, in water, of an individual. However, the examples provided
in Bible clearly indicate that only complete immersion is acceptable. In
addition, the Greek word for BAPTISM as used in the Scriptures baptizo
-

means, to plunge or submerge. Since we must strictly follow the
instructions provided, in order to be saved, it is clear that we must be
BAPTIZED by total immersion only. When a person is BAPTIZED, he or she
goes into the water a sinner, is buried in the water and raised sinless
through the blood of Christ.Reference(s): ACTS 8:38, GALATIANS 3:27, JOHN 3:5
Once an individual has been BAPTIZED
He or she has been saved from their sins.

He or she has been added to the Church.
Reference: ACTS 2:41
He or she has been born again. Just as the death, burial and
resurrection of Jesus, so God raises us up from the watery grave ofBAPTISM in newness of life.
Reference: ROMANS 6:3-4
Important Note: In the past, you may have been baptized by
Immersion. Please do not assume that baptism will be acceptable to
God. It is most important that you consider the decisions YOU have
personally made, not decisions made by your parents, friends or
others.
If you have not obeyed Gods specific instructions for being saved,
you are on a journey to HELL, where the eternal punishment is
indescribable in human terms. If you do obey, YOU have the Hope of
Heaven, where the peace, joy and pleasure are beyond human
understanding.
The moment after YOU have arisen from BAPTISM, YOU begin a new life in
Christ. Now the Challenge is to remain on the narrow path that leads to
eternal life in Heaven.
The final step is to Remain Faithful until death

His One True Church
All who are in fellowship with Christ are members of His Body, the Church.
The Church is a Spiritual Body, with Jesus Christ as its head and the
faithful throughout the world as members of His Body. (Ephesians 1:22-23)
There is only one true Church, the Church built by Jesus Christ (Matthew
16:18) In the Biblical times there were churches established in Jerusalem,
Ephesus, Rome, Smyrna, and other places. These were not different types of
churches, as is so prevalent today, but congregations of Christians in various
locations.
Governing each Church was a group of ordained Elders, who oversaw and
tended to the spiritual needs of it members. (Acts 14:23) The early churchused the congregational type of church government. The Elders ordained at
that location independently governed each church. Today, following the
pattern set by the churches of the first century, wherever Christians join
together to extend fellowship to each other in worship, we find a
congregation or local church. The Church of Christ still makes use of the
congregational type church government. Therefore, each church is
independent and is bound to other Churches of Christ only through Jesus
Christ as the Head and a shared faith.
In keeping with our effort to carefully follow the Bible, our worship consistsonly of those activities authorized in the New Testament. On Sunday, the
first day of the week, we observe the Lord's Supper as a memorial of our
Savior's death on the cross. (Acts 20:7) We praise God and edify one
another by singing, making melody in our hearts to God (Ephesians 5:19) and
by offering prayers of supplication and thanksgiving. (1Timothy 2:1) Through
sermons we exhort one another to "continue steadfastly in the apostles'
doctrine" (Acts 2:42) Only on Sunday do we take up a collection, and this is
so members can give as they have purposed in their hearts. (2 Corinthians
9:7)
Throughout our services, three principles govern all that we do:1. Worship of the Father in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24)
2. All things are done for edification (1 Corinthians 14:25)
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
39/113
3. All things are done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40)
The Church of Christ exists to give honor, glory and praise to God through
Benevolence, Evangelism, Edification, Spiritual Growth, Fellowship, Worship,
and Glorification of God. We accomplish this through study, prayer andpersonal involvement, using only the Bible as our authority and guide.
We wear the Name of Christ
We are simply known as Christians, just as believers were known in the
days of the Apostles, at which time there was only one Church. (Acts
11:26) Collectively, we are known as the Church of Christ. (Romans 16:16)
Finding no scriptural support for denominational names, practices, creeds
or formalities, none are used.
The Authority of the BibleWe believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. "All scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2 Timothy 3:16)
The Authority of Christ
We cherish Jesus Christ as Lord and have the highest regard for His
authority. Jesus said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
(Matthew 28:18) Adding to, or subtracting from, the simple instructions of
Jesus is failing to respect Him as Lord. (Revelation 22:18) Therefore, wehave no conferences, synods, councils, earthly headquarters or
denominational governmental organizations, as Christ did not authorize
these. Such organizations, which have been created by men, serve only to
compete with the authority of Christ. These groups bind human traditions
and commandments upon others, which was condemned by Jesus. (Matthew
15:9)
We Proclaim the Gospel
We proclaim the gospel message of the Christ crucified, who arose from the
dead on the third day. (Ephesians 4:11-12) We urge everyone to accept thegreatest gift of all, which is God's gift of everlasting life in His Son. (John
3:16)

Planning for EternityWith or without Jesus Eternity is Forever
We are encouraged to plan for the future education of our children, and a
carefree retirement. Of much greater importance is the planning of wherean individual and his loved ones will spend eternity.
Death is not only the end of our moral lives, but the beginning of our immoral
spiritual lives, which last for all eternity.
People all have a natural ingrained fear of the unknown, however, as we grow,
we learn to overcome, in large part, this and many other forms of fear.
Therefore the fear of death is natural, since it is the last great unknown,
but logically it is really just last phase in the natural progression of all livingthings.
While our society openly discusses sex, immorality, crime and violence, it
does not usually speak of death openly or frankly. Most people do not wantto think of death let alone discuss it. Comparing todays attitudes to that of
the Victorian era sees the extent of this aversion. Even in the Victorian era
death was discussed more openly than today.
The taboos the Victorians placed on sex have been transferred to death inour culture. We simply, in our modern morality of sensual, materialistic,
pleasure-mad existence, deny its existence, unless we see it in living color in
our living room or local theater (Rodney Miller, excerpt in an article
entitled, Death The Pekin Bulletin, November 16, 1975).
In her book, On Death and Dying, Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, psychiatrist,
listed five emotional stages of death.
1. Shock and denial: "No! Not me!" Denial is one way to ward off an
overwhelming situation and give oneself time to develop other defenses.Denial pushes away shock but reality must be accepted.
2. Resentment, anger and rage: "Why me!" An emotional reality sets in which
sometimes shakes a person to the very foundation of their being and even
their faith.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
45/113
3. A bargaining period: A promise to do something for a longer lease on life:
"Yes, but..." These might be something like, "If you give me one more year to
live, I'll go to worship every Sunday" or "I'll be a good Christian from now
on." Bargaining is like a temporary truce.
4. Realistic depression: "Yes, me." To be depressed when you face your own
death is normal. To grieve is to realize the enormity of what is happening.
5. Acceptance: "Yes, me, and I am ready!" This attitude does not imply
resignation, which is giving up. It is a peaceful stage when the person
realizes he or she has done what he can and the end is here. One has fully
come to terms with reality.
We can substantially reduce our fear, by studying the Word of God. For
example, in Hebrews 9:27, we learn that after we die, we will all face theJudgment. "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment."
Christ did not fear moral death, but was assured of being raised again. His
words the thief on cross are recorded in Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto
him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. The
moment of His moral death is recorded in Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had
cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit:
and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
The followers of Christ have been given the same assurance.
PSALMS 23
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
ACTS 759 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon [God], and saying, Lord Jesus,
receive my spirit.

Preparing for Eternal Life
Since death is unavoidable as our only exit from this world, we must prepare
for it. Death is not the end but rather the beginning of eternity.JOHN 528 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the
graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of
life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.Since heaven has done all it possibly can do for us, we must now do our part
and prepare for our inevitable demise. To properly prepare, one must:
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness(Matt. 6:33).Live a life of self-denial to the glory of God (Luke 6:26,33).
Live in Christ. To die in Christ one must live in Him. Those who die in Him are
blessed (Rev. 14:13).
To be found in Christ, one must be Baptized into Him (Gal. 3:26-27), and
Abide in Him (John 15:7), His Word (John 8:32)and His Doctrine (2 John 9).
Let Christ have preeminence in all things (Col. 1:18).One must live a life in humble submission to His will, the gospel (Rom. 1:16).One must always seek to do His will (Matt. 7:21).Conclusions
The rewards of living a righteous life that properly prepares one for death
are many. They include receiving a hundred-fold in this life and in the age tocome, eternal life (Mark 10:30); being carried away by angels (Luke 16:22);
going to Paradise (Luke 23:43); going to a house with many mansions (John
14:2); being with Christ (Phil. 1:23), at home with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8); and
gaining (Phil. 1:21) an eternal inheritance (1 Pet. 1:4) as a joint-heir with
Christ (Rom. 8:17), reigning with Him eternally (Rev. 22:5). (Gene Taylor,
excerpt in an article entitled, Planning for Death)

These are two urgent questions, which every individual on Earth
should seriously consider.
Is your Planning for Eternal Life complete and in order?
Which will You Choose?
There are millions of choices in this world, but in the HEREAFTER there will
only be TWO ALTERNATIVES.
Choice Number One
Is to be among the few who have submitted to His Will, labored in the Lordswork and accepted their redemption. Heaven is beyond our wildest
imaginings or dreams. The beauty, wonders, splendor, majesty, grandeur,
magnificence, brilliance and stately dignity of Heaven simply cannot be
adequately described in the language of humans. Love and the Light of Godwill fill it and endless happiness, peace and joy will abound. Jesus promised
in Revelation 2:7 To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of
life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. The only way to
experience Heaven is to be among the souls that have been saved from
everlasting damnation.
Choice Number Two
Is to be in the much larger group who failed to obey or did NOT worship in
spirit and in truth in accordance with the teachings of the Bible. Will YOU
be standing worst of humanity? The larger group will be punished in a
second death in a never ending eternal Hell. Will you remember this
commentary?
When you hear the Jesus say, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting
fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (Matthew 25:41), or But the
fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers,
and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake
which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
(Revelation 21:8), or how will you answer the question of Jesus Ye serpents,
-

ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? (Matthew
23:33)
Many people do not even want to think about the concept of forever or
everlasting. This concept is difficult for many to comprehend. Some like to
think of forever as a circle or never ending. Others look at the night sky
and try to imagine where it begins and ends. It is the opinion of many that
the universe is like eternity or unending. The fact is that God has always
been and will always be.
Please take a few minutes of quiet time and consider intensely the concepts
of eternity and continuous creaseless retribution.
Life is too Short and time without end or eternity is simply too long and the
everlasting punishment in the fires of Hell too terrifying to make any
mistakes.
Then make a choice, before it is too late.
Once you pass away from this Life you have lost the Golden opportunity to
have the Hope of Heaven. If you fail to accept God's Grace and Love, by
becoming His faithful servant, you have selected Hell and to spend eternity
as a angel of Satan, in everlasting Fire, by default.

Suggested impact and closing statement or questions(For application to the Sample Lesson Plan)
Note: The Art of Gentle Persuasion is the section following provides
additional insights in the use of the following.
What must I do to be SAVED is an expanded method of explaining Gods
Plan of Salvation, beginning with an impact statement on the first page
With or without Jesus Eternity is Forever. Point to the word Forever and
provide a graphic description in your own words.
The first closing question is to be asked at the conclusion of What must I
do to be SAVED as follows: first ask Do you have any questions? - Then
ask Have you been clearly shown the Biblical pathway to eternity life in
Heaven? - Assuming a positive answer to the second question, ask theFIRST CLOSING QUESTION Are you ready to obey Jesus and be baptized
for the remission of your sins, today?
The SECOND CLOSING QUESTION is to be asked following THE
PURPOSE OF EACH LIFE. At this point the prospect(s) are to be asked if
they have any questions. After you have answered all their questions to your
mutual satisfaction, then say: My question is: Are you ready to fulfill the
purpose of your life, be baptized, so you can spend eternity enjoying the
rewards that await the faithful in Heaven? If the answer is yes, asuggested response is Wonderful!!! - This is the time to show some real
emotion after all that is great JOY in Heaven.
If the answer is no, WHICH IS EXPECTED, more training is in order.
Ask Your Prospect to read Acts 22:16.
The next step is tocomplete the general questions in A Time for HonestReflection.
The impact question is Does the Bible clearly state that every person whose
name is not written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire andwill be punished forever? Ask your prospect to read Revelation 20:15. It is
assumed that most people will answer yes.
The second impact question Is your name written the Book of Life? (The
only honest answer for the unsaved is NO.) Please be certain that this
question is at the bottom of the page.

This is important, as it gives you the opportunity to build on the effects of
this question, [With your facial expressions and personal questions or
comments such as, (considering the meaning of eternity) develop a dialogue
with your prospect(s). This should be a very serious conversation and is thetime that many will come to a realization of the horrors of Hell] before
asking the third closing question.
Upon the completion of this discussion, turn the page and ask the THIRD
CLOSING QUESTION: Do you want to be baptized today, so you can spend
eternity in Heaven? Expect that he or she will NOT give a direct answer,
but will attempt to delay this important decision to a more convenient time,
but you could be surprised so: BE PREPARED IN THE EVENT THE
PROSPECT(S) AGREES TO BE BAPTIZED.
Following a neutral or negative response, ask SOFTLY AND SLOWLY the
FOURTH CLOSING QUESTION: When do you plan to obey the
commandments of Jesus? If the answer is soon or similar - ask, So I may
make the proper arrangements when do you plan to obey the commandments
of Jesus? without taking a breath ask Would you prefer to do so on
Wednesday night or next Sunday morning?
Have your prospect(s) fill in the Day, Date and Time in his or her
handwriting. The training session in now completed, you have your commitment. Make
arrangements to pick up the prospect(s) up or meet for coffee or
breakfast before services etc. and spend some time getting to know
them.
If the Prospect(s) resists, suggest they plan to attend services with you the
following Sunday morning.
If they agree, offer to pick them up or suggest that meeting for coffee or
breakfast before services.
If your prospect(s) decline to complete the day & time, but agrees to attend
services, he or she has taken the first small step towards becoming a
Christian.

Consider an invitation to attend Church services with you on the Sunday
morning.Assuming a neutral or negative response, review with Prospect(s), the If
you are still undecided passages. Have your prospect(s) read the last verseto be considered If ye love me, keep my commandments. Asked them to
explain exactly what Jesus was meant by this statement.
This is important point in your presentation, as it gives you the opportunity
to build on the effects of the Words of Jesus (With your facial
expressions, questions and comments develop a conversation with your
prospect).
Make use of the Impact Resource(s) you have presented to remind them ofterror and everlasting punishment that awaits the followers of Satan.
The next step is to ask the Set up Question, Do You Love Jesus? This must
be at the bottom of first page
After engaging in a conversation as to the meaning of what it means to Love
Jesus, turn the page and ask the SIXTH CLOSING QUESTION which is
Will you obey the commandments of Jesus today?
If the prospect continues to resist, but appears to be sincere, CONSIDERsetting a future appointment, which will allow your Prospect(s) time to
consider what has been said and the study materials, which you have
provided.
In the case of a neutral or negative response, it is time to consider the use
of a previously selected POWER CLOSE, for YOUR SEVENTH CLOSING
ATTEMPT of the training program. (Note: Power closes are explained in the
section following.)
Deliver, from memory, your final argument (Power Close) intensely, as if you
were fighting for your very life.
If the power close fails, CONSIDER the use of the Last Ditch close.
-

Keep in the mind the last ditch (forget the quiet rule) close is to be only
used, (POSSIBLY AN EIGHTTH CLOSING ATTEMPT) if they vacillating,
sitting on the fence and you truly feel it is a lost cause.
Sometimes a bold move will bring about a positive conclusion. In these cases,
Stand up quickly, look directly at the Prospect and firmly say Name(s), lets
go to the Church right now, so you can obey Christ and be baptized!
Always leave the door open for future discussions
& always REMEMBER to ask for REFERRALS.
We would be Delighted to Hear of yourEfforts and Successes

The Art of Gentle Persuasion
Persuasion is defined as causing an individual to do something
through logic, reasoning, urging, or inducement: to convince orin the words of an old time salesman closing.
Some Members of the Church of Christ claim to be opposed tothe use of persuasion or the use of sales closing techniques.
They believe that Gods Plan of Salvation should be simply
presented and the sinner is then allowed to decide for him or
herself.
However, the pattern we find in the New Testamentindicates that Paul used very intense persuasion in at least
one case.
ACTS 24:24-25
And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla,
which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning
the faith in Christ. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and
judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way
for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for
thee.
In the parable of Jesus The Great Supper, the master
told his servants to go out into the highways and hedges andcompel them to come in.
Compel is defined in Websters New World Dictionary as:1) to force or constrain, as to do something 2) to get or
bring about by force 3) [Archaic] to gather or drivetogether by force, as a flock

Do you want to go to Heaven?
Do you understand that we have almost unlimited choices here
on earth, but in the hereafter there will be only two choices?
After you have asked a closing question, BE STILL until
the question is answered, regardless of how long it maytake. This is sometimes a serious test of will. An old time
salesmans motto is He who speaks first is the Loser.
This is a very important point, after posing or asking any
and all closing question(s) - remain totally silent, regardless
of how long it takes for your Prospect(s) to respond. He orshe is considering their response
Your eyes should be fixed firmly in the direction of the
Prospect(s), your face should have a sunny, but questioning
expression and your attitude is one of intense expectation.
The Art of Gentle Persuasionis really the gentle art of
setting the stage (using one or more statements orquestions, intended to cause your prospect to think and
consider carefully the issue at hand, followed up with aclosing question.
Important Note: In the modern age, most individuals have a
built-in automatic rejection system that kicks in when ever
they are asked a closing question. In order to overcome
their automatic rejection system we must use knowledge, logic and information to persuade them to seriously considerour appeal.
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
59/113
For that specific reason, up to eight closes or attempts to
persuade are suggested.
Most experienced sales personnel remind themselves toclose, with the letters ABC (Always Be Closing).
Do not be afraid to ask your Prospect(s) the difficult
questions. You Mission is simply too important.
Power Closes
In order for these closes to be effective they must be delivered
from memory, in an intense deadly serious manner. Look theProspect(s) directly in their eyes, invade their space slightly and
speak in a low powerful tone.
Change Positions Close
Sometimes offering to change positions with the Prospect(s)
will aid in overcoming. For example, one could say to the
Prospect(s) Suppose I were to be you and you were me and youhave just taught me everything I need to know to be saved
from my sins.
Assume I know in my heart that I need to be baptized, but for
some, possibly unknown reason, I am stalling. What would you
say to me? No, really what would you say if you were truly
concerned for my soul and wanted me to go to Heaven?
Then WAIT SILENTLY for his or her answer, regardless ofhow long it takes.
The Only Two Choices Close
-
8/9/2019 Leading Others to Christ
60/113
Name of Prospect(s); let me understand this clearly. What you
are saying to God is that Jesus suffering and death on the
cross for your sins is of absolutely no importance to you.
You are rejecting outright the salvation and eternal home Godis wishes to give to you.
State full Name of Prospect(s);YOU are aware of the fact
that there are only two choices in the hereafter. You arerejecting Heaven. So, where does that leave you?
Then WAIT SILENTLY for his or her answer, regardless of
how long it takes.
The Last Ditch Close, the only Exception to the Be StillRule
There is ONE AND ONLY ONE EXCEPTION to the be still
rule. If your prospect is racked with indecision and if you feel
that it is almost a lost cause, IT MAY BE TIME TO MAKE A
VERY BOLD MOVE.
Move rapidly and speak in a very firm voice.
Stand up, look directly at the Prospect(s) and make the
following closing statement
Name(s), lets go to the Church right now, so you can obey
Christ and be baptized!
Pick up your Bible, briefcase or purse and start for the door.
If they do not start to move almost immediately, motion and say
Lets Go!
This close is only used as very last resort, when you feel in your
heart, if you wait the answer will be no.
-

In this situation, they are sitting on the fence, you have nothing
to lose and you just might pull them over to the side of Christ.
Sometimes all it takes is a little push.
Be prepared to take immediate action
For example, if your prospect answers YES to the question
Would it please Jesus, if you were to surrender your life to
Him today and were baptized? (Question #8 - A Time for
Honest Reflection which is a part of the Sample Lesson Plan)
If it feels right, immediately STAND and say, Wonderful
lets go the Church building and meet with the Minister
now!
Your prospect(s) will usually have one of two reactions, either
they will stand, which indicates agreement or they will remain
seated, which indicates refusal, at this point.
If they do stand, hopefully you have made the necessary
arrangement, proceed to the church building.
If you have not made the arrangements, simply say, I musttelephone the Minister or an Elder to make the necessary
arrangements and proceed.
If they have indicated refusal, resume your seat and the lesson.

Points to RememberKeep a written calendar of your appointments.
Always be on time.
Spend as much time as necessary helping people getting prepared to
HEAR, just as Jesus did. The Bible relates several situations in which He
healed or fed people so that they might be in the proper frame of mind
to HEAR the WORD.
Meet with the Prospect privately. It is more difficult to discuss a
persons soul with others present. Of course, there are exceptions, suchas in the case of a husband and wife or other close relatives. Jesus
taught the Samaritan woman, Nichodemus and Zachaeus privately.
Be sincere and express a deep interest in each Prospect, when
discussing their precious soul and their eternal future. You concern and
interest will shine though and they will more inclined to be interested in
what you have to say regarding the gospel.
Do not answer questions off the top of your head always provide thetraining using the prepared study materials.
Always select a time and place where potential distractions can be
held to an absolute minimum.
If you must hold the study sessions in their home, ask that
distractions, such as television sets, radio etc. be turned down or off and
request to seated at the kitchen or dining table. It is suggested that you
take a baby sitter, if required.
Stay on track, do not allow your Prospect(s) to get off the subject.
Be certain to have extra pens, study guides, marked New Testaments,
Bibles, paper etc. on hand.

Put their names on the study guides.Remind them to ask questions, if they do not understand, often.
Have the Prospect(s) read all passages. The goal is to involve them inthe study. Allowing the Prospects to read the verses, allows he or she to
discover the Truth, holds their attention and will have a greater impact.
Use illustrations from real life to emphasize your points.
Never apologize for the Truth or what is written in the Word.
Never pass over any point, Scripture or question. Do not proceed with
the lesson until total agreement with the Scripture is obtained. If theProspect(s) incorrectly answer a question, have he or she re-read the
Scripture and suggest Lets look it up in the Bible.
Do not preach or quote scriptures, let the Bible speak.
Maintain an attitude of concern and interest. Listen careful to all
comments. Always look at the problem or issue from their point of view.
Help them work through their issues and come to an understanding. The
regular use of the word Lets indicates you have a willingness to work
with the trainee in finding the answer or the solution.
By conducting these Bible studies our objectives is to bring about a
realization within the mind and soul of the Prospect that they are LOST
and FOREVER DOOMED. To guide them to a complete understanding and
acceptance of Gods Plan of Salvation and to develop a strong desire for
His salvation.
Never become argumentative or attempt to prove your point. When
you are confronted with an unusual or attack question or statement, simply say, Lets see what the Bible tells us.
2 TIMOTHY 2:24
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto
all [men], apt to teach, patient,
-

Keep in mind that some questions cannot be answered, as the
information is simply not provided in the Bible. If you are asked a
question to which you do not know the answer, simply tell the Prospect(s)
you do not know, but will try to get the information and get back to them.Be certain to follow through.
Soul winning requires strength, patience and perseverance.
Make use of comparisons regularly. For example, compare what he
believes with the teachings of the Bible or compare the advantages being
in Christ with being outside the Church. Which choice is in accord with
the Bible or would be acceptable to God?
You want to be heard, so be interesting and uplifting
You want to be understood, so be logical and specific
You want to produce results, so be warm and genuine
Distractions
Expect distractions to occur.
Be patient
When distractions occur, start at the point you left off by recapping
the last couple of sentences before occurrence.
Objections and Questions
Expect objections and questions, they are simply a part ofprocess.
