Friday, September 21, 1-5:30 PM and Saturday, September 22, 9 AM-4 PM Leading Locally: Design Review for Preservation Planning Join Historic New England and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation for a two-day workshop on design review for preservation planning. Historic district and design review commission members, local planners, students, and historic preservation advocates will learn how to plan for preserving neighborhoods, downtowns, and village centers using design review bylaws. Lectures by regional experts will cover statutory and policy frameworks for local design review, historic preservation treatment standards, how to develop design guidelines, and how to balance preservation and broader design goals when crafting guidelines. Participants will apply knowledge gained from lectures during field exercises on specific preservation projects in White River Junction. The workshop culminates in a mock public hearing session that puts lessons learned into practice. $20 (includes snacks and Saturday continental breakfast and lunch). Advance registration required. Join Historic New England and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation for a two-day workshop on design review for preservation planning.
