Leadership Southeast Texas Youth Leadership Program (Y-LSET) Eligibility: 9th-12

th grade students; They would

like non-traditional student leaders as well as traditional student leaders to apply. Y-LSET is a program aimed at preparing students to become the next leaders of their school, community, and country. The mission of the LSET Program is to provide sustainable development of leadership skills in diverse student populations by promoting an understanding between students’ school and regional experiences, coupled with a call to civic action. Students will be required to attend Leadership Day, participate in a community service project (November through April), and will complete assigned reading, writing, and other small assignments. This will be a great opportunity for students to not only develop leadership skills and make job connections, but will also be a great addition to their resumes. LSET alumni will interview students and make selections by November. Listen to announcements and look on Facebook for more details. Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Ambassador (Sophomores) HOBY will be held at Texas A&M Galveston in the summer of 2016. HOBY’s purpose is to choose a select group of sophomores who have demonstrated leadership ability so they can interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education, and the professions to discuss present and future issues. Lamar University Mirabeau Scholarship Amount: a value of $60,000 over 4 years This is a four-year full academic scholarship covering tuition, fees, on-campus room, board and a book stipend. Eligibility: Seniors, SAT scores (CR and math) of 1250 or greater or a composite ACT score of at least 28, and have demonstrated excellence in prior academic work. In addition, documented excellence in a variety of leadership, service, and/or creative endeavors is expected. Students are no longer required to send in a copy of their test scores or transcript because these items are on file from their application for admission. Texas State University Review Process- Predicted Academic Success (PAS) Review This is for students who don’t meet automatic admission requirements. It is a holistic review for students ranked in the top 3 quarters of their class with SAT or ACT scores near the assured admission requirements. Factors considered are: academic achievements, essay, extracurricular activities, first-generation status, socio-economic status, and English as a second language. You do not have to apply for a PAS review; every applicant who doesn't meet assured admissions requirements and is ranked in the top 75 percent of his or her class is automatically reviewed. Thoroughly complete Part II of the ApplyTexas application, and submit an essay on one of the listed topics which will allow readers to gain insight about you not reflected on your transcript or test scores. Texas A&M-Galveston: Sea Aggie Preview (Juniors and Seniors) Sea Aggie Preview is for prospective students to learn what it means to be an Aggie at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG). This is an event that offers students an opportunity to meet current students, witness Aggie traditions like Yell Practice and to participate in Q & A sessions about TAMUG hosted by academic departments, Admissions, Student Life and Financial Aid. Prospective students who are interested in being a part of the Texas Maritime Academy and Corps of Cadets can use this opportunity to “Spend the Night with the Corps”. The Hazlewood Act This provides qualified veterans, spouses, and children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition and fee exemptions at state supported colleges or universities. Eligibility:

(1) A veteran must have been a Texas resident upon entry into the military, entered into active federal duty in Texas, or declared Texas as his or her home of record at the time of entry into the armed forces as documented on the DD Form 214

(2) A veteran must have a military discharge of honorable or general, under honorable conditions

(3) A veteran must have served at least 181 days of active duty service

(4) A veteran must not be in default on an education loan made or guaranteed by the State of Texas and not in default on a federal loan if that default is the reason the student cannot use his or her federal veterans’ benefits
