Welcome to Saint David’s United Church
Leader: We light the Christ candle to
remind us that Jesus Chris is
the light of this church and of
the world.
People: Thank you God for this light. Help
us reflect it to the darkened
corners of the world.
Lighting of the Christ Candle
Hymn: VU 578
As a Fire is Meant for Burning
As a fire is meant for burning
With a bright and warming flame,
So the church is meant for mission,
Giving glory to God’s name.
Not to preach our creeds or customs,
But to build a bridge of care,
We join hands across the nations,
Finding neighbours everywhere.
We are learners; we are teachers;
We are pilgrims on the way.
We are seekers; we are givers;
We are vessels made of clay.
By our gentle, loving actions,
We would show that Christ is light.
In a humble, listening Spirit,
We would live to God’s delight.
As a green bud in the springtime
Is a sign of life renewed,
So may we be signs of oneness
Mid earth’s peoples, many-hued.
As a rainbow lights the heavens
When a storm is past and gone,
May our lives reflect the radiance
Of God’s new and glorious dawn.
Leader: God of all creation,
People: What do you require of us?
Leader: To do justice,
People: Seeking peace and reconciliation,
standing with the
marginalized and forgotten.
Leader: To love kindness
People: Showing compassion and
unconditional caring
for those in need.
Leader: To walk humbly
People: Following in the steps of Jesus,
lifting up not only the work of
our hands but the power that
sustains our service.
Come Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit.
Sanctify this place.
Shine your light upon us.
Fill us with your grace.
Make us disciples of your living word.
Come Holy Spirit. Come. (Repeat)
All: Loving God, You call us to walk with
You, to seek justice, to love kindness. This
morning we come to this place – a place of
safety and love for so many of us – and we
seek to follow where You call.
As we hear Your Word for us today, as we
learn about ways in which we can put Your
love into action – inspire our hearts and fill
us with a desire to be Christ’s hands and
feet in the world.
Bless what we do here. Bless those who will
teach us and lead us, and help each of us
to be a blessing to others. Amen

Hymn: VU 575
I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me
I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me
I’m gonna live so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna live so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna work so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna work so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna pray so
God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna pray so
God can use me
Anywhere, Lord,
anytime.
I’m gonna sing so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
I’m gonna sing so God can use me
Anywhere, Lord, anytime.
Lord, Listen to Your
Children Praying
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place;
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power,
send us grace!
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
for ever and ever. Amen.
Walk with me,
I will walk with you
And build the land
That God has planned
Where love shines through.

Offering
Your Work, O God,
Needs Many Hands
Your work, O God, needs many hands
To help you everywhere,
And some there are who cannot serve
Unless our gifts we share.
Because we love you and your work,
Our offering now we make:
Be pleased to use it as your own,
We ask for Jesus’ sake.

When I Needed a Neighbour
When I Needed a Neighbour
When I needed a neighbour,
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a neighbour,
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter,
Were you there?
I was hungry and thirsty,
Were you there, were you there?
I was hungry and thirsty,
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter,
Were you there?
I was cold, I was naked,
Were you there, were you there?
I was cold, I was naked,
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter,
Were you there?
When I needed a healer,
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a healer,
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter,
Were you there?
Wherever you travel
I’ll be there, I’ll be there.
Wherever you travel
I’ll be there.
And the creed and the colour
And the name won’t matter,
I’ll be there.
You Shall Go Out With Joy
You shall go out with joy
And be led forth with peace,
And the mountains and the hills
Shall break forth before you.
There’ll be shouts of joy
And the trees of the field
Shall clap, clap, clap their hands,
And the trees of the field
Shall clap their hands,
And the trees of the field
Shall clap their hands,
And the trees of the field
Shall clap their hands,
And you’ll go out with joy!
