In full acknowledgement and appreciation of the crucial and indispensable role that the Dalit sections of the society play in various socio-economic activities, It is a common sense that further empowering them could potentially bring an explosion of ideas and economic opportunities beneficial for improving not only their own socio-economic status but also contribute substantially to the national economy.

Entrepreneurship is known to form new rules of participation and engagement, hence engaging Dalits would bring a unique dimension of increasingly entrepreneurial world that is seeing a boom of novel ideas, products and services. 

Aligning with the objective of Stand-up India to help create 2.5 lakh entrepreneurs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the ‘Stand-up India’ scheme to promote entrepreneurship

among scheduled castes and tribes by enabling them secure easier loans and said this could be an engine of job creation for the youth.

There is an urgent and immediate need to spread awareness of the opportunity this scheme brings through effective marketing of high quality preparatory programs that will strengthen Dalit enterprise ideas, ensure their success in producing

THE CHALLENGES FACED BY DALIT ENTREPRENEURS

• Lack of access to business networks which provides support in entering the entrepreneurship field

• Credit is not made available easily because of lack of collateral guarantee required for taking loans

• Low rates of literacy among Dalits doesn't provide them basic and technical education for enterpreneurship

STEPS TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT

• Increasing the authorised capital under National Schedule Caste Finance and Development Corporation

• Establishing MUDRA Bank • Green Business Scheme (for long up to Rs. 1 lakh for

climate friendly technology usage) • Stand up India for ease of availability of credit to Dalit

Entrepreneurs.

What is LEAD Program?

LEAD is a practice-oriented program for Dalit entrepreneurs who are on the verge of starting a new venture and for early stage Dalit entrepreneurs who are seeking clarity on aspects of their existing ventures.

The program is designed to provide exposure to crucial aspects of the entrepreneurship experience.

Who is LEAD Program for?

• LEAD Program is for aspiring and current Dalit entrepreneurs who would like to take on entrepreneurship and new venture creation; or who would like assistance in formulating, developing and commercialising/scaling their enterprises.

Duration and Schedule

LEAD is a 5 day program designed for interaction and project work over 5 days

• 5 full day interaction (9:30am to 4pm.)

Program Takeaways

Specific problems ranging from ideation, teaming, funding, to growth strategy are focused in the program.

Some of the learning objectives are:

•Know about your capabilities and aspirations and their fit with your idea.

•Sharpen your idea by deconstruction and reconstruction to recognise new dimensions to your ideas

•Learn how to create forecasts for a new business and where and how early-stage businesses find capital

• Navigate the detailed process of business plan preparation and presentation

• Identify the top priorities and the key risks for a new venture management Team

Day 2 • Presentation of ideas

• Critiquing ideas for refinement - Using VUV framework (Valuable, Usable, and Viable Venture Ideas)

• Formation of team : ownership allocation & role sharing

• Execution challenges: identifying and sequencing operations

Peer learning Batch Size The Maximum Batch size for the program is 35.

Post Program Support Recognising the need to handhold the participants into implementation of the learning from LEAD into their venture, iSEED offers up to three consultations with the members of the faculty for a period of two months after the completion of the program.

A minimum of fifteen days gap is mandatory between two consultations.

Award of Certificates Participants who complete the program satisfactorily and meet the attendance requirements will be awarded certificates of successful completion of the program.

Application Procedure 1. Candidates can apply online on iSEED

website 2. An Assessment is done based on a series of

descriptive questions which have to be answered and submitted online by all candidates along with the admission form

3. Shortlisted applications will be invited for interaction

4. An offer for admission is made subsequent to the interaction based on the assessment of the panel
