A few years ago I came across these words by David Morrow who wrote the book, “Why Men Hate Going to Church.” To say these words rattled my cage would be an understatement—here’s a sampling of what he said, and it won’t take you long to see why I was concerned: “Why are men so bored in our churches? Even men who are born-again, Spirit-filled, longtime Christians are clamming up and dropping out. What’s going on? A business guru once said, “Your system is perfectly designed to give you the results you’re getting.” Christianity’s primary delivery system, the local church, is perfectly designed to reach women and older folks. That’s why our pews are filled with them. But this church system offers little to stir the mascu-line heart, so men find it dull and irrelevant. The more masculine the man, the more likely he is to dislike church. What do I mean? Men and young adults are drawn to risk, challenge and adventure. But these things are discouraged in the local church. Instead, most congregations offer a safe, nurturing com-munity—an oasis of stability and predictability. Studies show that women and seniors gravitate toward these things. Although our official mission is one of adventure, the actual mission of most congregations is making people feel comfortable and safe—especially longtime members.” To make a very long story short enough for our newsletter, I vowed to do something about this. For more than two decades I had resisted using lots of sports illustrations or risky adventurous methods because I wanted to be sensi-tive to all demographics in our church. However, I was doing what every other church was doing and simply put, we were ignoring men. We have addressed that to some degree here at LCC by establishing our men’s fraternity group. Ask any of the 10-12 regular attendees this past year, and they can tell you what a difference that study has meant in their lives. Ask my wife, and she’ll tell you that it has radically changed me. th. That day we will do church a little differently
as we will do it on “men’s terms.” You’ll have to attend to see what that means, but the 8:00 am service that day will be held outdoors in a pavilion out at Moraine View State Park/Dawson Lake. On like Donkey Kong!
Yee haw, it’s here! Summer is officially here, no ifs-ands-or-buts about it!
No more classrooms, no more books, no more…you get it. Summer chores,
days at the pool, vacations, camp, you name ’tis the season. I like summer
most of the time, even in the extreme heat, but it’s all the more welcome
after our hard winter. It’s amazing that not even 4 months ago, we were
dealing with highs in the single digits for days on end. But that’s all behind
us now and we have all this season to look forward to. I think the idea
behind summer break is for it to be a relaxing time between the hectic
schedules of two school years. For many though, summer is much more
chaotic, even without homework. Youth group wise, we keep things pretty
predictable. Jr & Sr High Youth Group and Happy Meal keep things on
the same nights throughout the week, all summer long, for a reason. K-5
events break for the summer, but we’ve got some great monthly events
planned to keep everyone a little more connected. Hopefully, the summer
isn’t as imposing as a giant ape, but we promise not to monkey around and
waste your time either. Stay tuned and connected (but calm and collected)
this summer. We’ll make it worth your while.
This summer, we’re going to keep some of the good momentum going with
our JAM aged kiddos and their families. If you plan to attend the,
Cornbelters game at the Corn Crib June 25, call me today!!! I need to give
the front office our final numbers by Wednesday of this week. Be sure to
include these dates on your summer calendars as well: July 23, “Drive In”
Movie Night at LCC 5:30-8:30pm; August 13, Pool party at REPLEX, 6:30-
7:30pm. Call us in the office (309-962-6491) to get more info and to RSVP
for the events.
The Happy Meal has begun another series of meals on Wednesdays at our
house beginning at 6:30pm. It’s a chance to keep current with friends dur-
ing the summer months, get to know our youth leaders outside the church
building, and get your tummy filled with wholesome awesomeness! Some-
times we’ll be inside (if it’s rainy or super hot) enjoying board games or a
flick; most of the time we’ll be enjoying the great outdoors, maybe even
around a fire! Don’t miss out, and don’t let your friends miss out either!
Bring a crowd and get happy!

SUMMER SOFTBALL TEAM We are organizing players for church softball again this year. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons in July. Players must be 16 years old or older. All games will be played at the Le Roy Elementary School Complex. If interested in playing, contact Trevor Fox or the church office for more details.

FOOD PANTRY NEWS Because the Food Pantry was closed on Memorial Day, we served 23 households on June 1! Thanks to our loyal volunteers who stayed late to make sure everyone received their food. The 5th grade class of the Le Roy Elementary School hosted a Wax Museum with all proceeds coming to the Food Pantry. They raised $742.95! WOW! Thank you, fifth graders! Did you know that LeRoni’s Pizza has an on-going discount program that benefits the Food Pantry? On Wednesdays, if you take an item for the Food Pantry, you will receive dollars off your purchase of a large pizza. The IGA has an on-going program of donating 5¢ to the Pantry for every canvas bag brought in by their customers in which to put their groceries instead of using plastic. And, Burcham Apartments are very generous in their regular donations. These are just a few of the ways in which our local schools and businesses support the community Food Pantry! Thanks to all of them and the people in our community for their generous donations and thoughtfulness! The Pantry needs plastic grocery bags, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup, and boxed dinners.

Words cannot express how much we appreciate all the prayers and acts of kindness shown to our family during Brad’s emergency surgery. Praise God he is doing great! The meals that were brought every night were delicious! We are back in the Dominican Republic full of love and support and encouragement from back home! You have no idea how much seeing all of you will help carry us through the hard times.
