    There is hefty expectation

When back my skin is peeled

Theres a blooming ower in my heart

    Just waiting to be revealed

    Green-house glass eyes

    Absorb the sun

    Winter has ended,Life has begun.

Ribs are no longer a cage

    My bones becoming a gate

    Hinges squeak with inhaling breaths

This time I will not break

    The unwritten story is

    Running down warming summer streets

My hands reach out towards the light

    Its time we nally meet

Throughout this past year I have had the wonderful opportunity to partake in the

creation of Le Dilettante. Although this is my rst ofcial time working on the maga-zine, this wouldnt be the rst time Ive been a part of the discussion. Being that mymother is the art teacher, Le Dilettante has been a part of my life for the past eightyears and Ive loved every minute of it! Working on this magazine has been a memo-rable experience full of laughs, hard work, and a little dash of frustration. This greatjourney has left me srdsht for more and I dentely look forward to working with ev-eryone next year!

    --Alyssa Ruggles

As t he senior member of t he Le Dilet t ant e I had the responsibilit y t o pret end I knewwhat was going on. I feel t hat I completed t his task. No one seemed t o have not iced anyway.Despite t his, I believe I have finally conquered t he beast , t hat is Adobe InDesign and t hink it

should be renamed JohnDesign for my out standing accomplishment . This being my secondyear wit h t he sof t ware and t he Le Dilet t ant e st aff , I was hoping it would go more smoot hlyt han last year. It didnt , but we survived and few computers were harmed.

I think the biggest problem I faced t his year was dealing wit h Miss Alyssa and myselfseldom seeing eye-to-eye. Once again, I was convinced t o include all of her input and someof mine... Needless to say, alt hough I would never admit it t o her, I like her ideas and t hink it

t urned out very well. I figure shell be good enough, as the cont inuit y of t he Le Dilet t ant e rest slargely on her. Thank you and good srdsht wit h t he up coming year.

I would like to t ake a chance t o also t hank Mrs. Ruggles, Hanna, and Liz for making my

life much easier when put t ing t his magazine t oget her. I would likely st ill be writ ing if it werenot for Hanna and would have been killed by the camera if not for Liz.

I guess t his is goodbye, as I am out t he proverbial door, as far as the Le Dilet t ante goes.It was a fun ride and I hope you all miss me t remendously. :) Thank you all for support ing t he

Cent ral Mont calm art program and I hope you enjoy t his years Le Dilet t ante.

    Walking along the beach,

    Everything seems to go away

No pain, no hurt; just me

    Winter has come...

When the cold arrives and noise ceases to exist

the trees stand in their own erie state,Staring down at any life that dares disturb their peace,

But as the snow falls and the air chills a white blanketcovers their lonely branches. And for a moment, fear and darkness is hidden by thesafe haven of white beauty. It has nally come, winter

    has come.

Where even the lonliest feel at home...

The wind blows, but she stands strong.

The wind howls, and yet she does not move.

She stands as the wind blows and howls,

    Until winder chill touches her coarse bark;

    Till she lets her leaves y in the winds of fall,winter, and spring;

Until next year, when her branches reach for the

    sky above;

Until then, she stands bare, for the entire world to

    see.

    Until spring begins to blossom

And the world awakens her branches of time,

    beauty, and love. --Erica

    Im nervous.

I grab my guitar and take the stage.

They yell my name, whistle and scream.

I smile back and introduce myself.

I strum on my guitar and they recognize my song.

I close my eyes and pray that I dont mess up.

My ngers tremble as I strum on the chords.

I sing my rst sentence into the mic, and they scream.

    Im a star.

    They all love my song.

They have their phones and their lighters out,

Swaying back and forth to the slow, sad tune.

This is my time to shine.

    Sleep

The day has passed beyond our power

The petals close upon the ower.

The light is failing in this hour

    Of days last waning breath.

The blackness of the night surrounds,

The distant souls of stars now found.Far from this world to which were bound,

    Of sorrow, fear, and death.

    Sleep, love. Forever sleep.

Your soul the night will keep.

    Embrace the darkness deep,

    Sleep, love. Forever sleep.

The gathering darkness takes our souls,

    Embracing us in chilling folds.

Deep in a mistress void that holds

    Our fate within her hands.

Dream, warriors, of the dark above

    And feel the sweet redemption

Of the nights consort and of her love

    For those within her hands.

    Sleep, love. Forever sleep.

Your soul the night will keep.

    Embrace the darkness deep.

    Sleep, love. Forever sleep.

The strength of silence lls the sky,

Its depth beyond both you and I.

Into its arms our souls will y,

    Where fear and sorrow end.

We close our eyes, our minds at rest.Submit your will to her behest.

    Our weaknesses to her confessed,

And do her will we bed.

    Sleep, love. Forever sleep.

Your soul the night will keep.

    Embrace the darkness deep,

    Sleep, Love. Forever sleep.

The Story of the Tsar Saltan

The story is of three sisters, of whom the youngest is cho-

sen by Tsar Saltan to be his wife, while he makes the oth-

er two his royal cook and royal weaver. They are jealous, of

course, and when the tsar goes off to war, and in his absence

the tsaritsa gives birth to a son, Prince Gvidon, they arrange

to have her and her child sealed up in a barrel and thrown

into the sea. The sea itself takes pity on them, and they are

cast up on the shore of a remote island, Buyan. The son, hav-ing quickly grown while in the barrel, goes hunting. He ends up

saving an enchanted swan from a kite. The swan creates a city

for Prince Gvidon to rule, but he is homesick, and the swan

turns him into a mosquito. In this guise, he visits Tsar Saltans

court, where he stings his aunt in the eye and escapes. Back in

his distant realm, the swan gives Gvidon a magical squirrel. But

he continues to pine for home, so the swan transforms him into

a y. In this guise, Prince Gvidon visits Saltans court again

and he stings his older aunt in the eye. The third time, the

Prince is transformed into a bumblebee and stings the nose of

his grandmother. In the end, he expresses a desire for a bride

instead of his old home, at which point the swan is revealed to

be a beautiful princess, whom he marries. He is visited by the

Tsar, who is overjoyed to nd his wife and newly married son.

    Devils Kiss

What kind of a world has ours become?

Bathing in sorrow and despair as hatred thrums,

    Everyone around is falling.

Begging on their knees and crawling,

    Death from everywhere,

Their will is slowly becomingMuch less than nothing:

    A mass of collective humming.

Sin amiss from the Devils kiss,

Our world is crumbling into bits.

And as his drum beats the ground,

    Steady rhythm against our heads,

Chaos erupting is what weve found

To be the result of the living dead.

    Much more than nothing,

Our world is dying.Take comfort in the peace of demise,

    Listen to the sweet thrumming;

Take a look and open your eyes.

Our world has turned to nothing.

I know Im normal, but I feel like singing in an unnatural way tonature.I feel like I want to wake up in a flower garden and just dream outload.I want to have the trees teach me ballet, in a lifetime of giggles.I want to have the bees lift me up, and fly me to the clouds to hear thewhisper of the rainfall at midnight.I want the moon to shine, and make the world howl, and the cricketsscream their loudest sounds.I want a day of lion roars, and monkey calls, I want the river to run

wild as it drops down the water fall.I want horses to run free as they dance down hills as fast as they cango.I want the yawns of babycheetahs to drift them to a heavysleep.I want to tell at thunder as itrumbles the morning dews rest, and awakens it.

I want to feel the passing of age,in less than a second.I want the wind to carry theechoes of panda bears, as theychomp on bamboo.I want the birds to swim abovethe ocean with the warmbreeze,And the dolphins to fly in thewater only to leave behind a

path full of wishes.I want the little crumbs to meaneverything to ants as they carrythem back to their home; But most of all, I want my dreamto be heard.--Sabra Leonard 10th --Randi VeltKamp 2th

    Shifting Through Life

Her heartbeat thundering in altered ears,

Feet shoving off the ground, propelling a slim

    gure farther.

The run drowning all problems and fears,For her freedom she must barter.

Drop to all fours, feeling cool Earth on palms.

The itch is maddening, but it calms.

It races to all limbs, leaving nothing alone

In her own mind, an echo will moan.

    Sweat builds at the brow,

Through the pain one must plow.

    Relief comes only in time.

Rearranging cannot be done at the drop of a dime.

It is best not to ght it or the pain,

If one were to, there is nothing to gain. Finally the agony subsides,

And through the forest, she now glides.

    Fur replaces naked esh,

    Human body and wolf mesh.

Defying the laws of nature on a daily basis,

Through life, the solitary freak rules.

    Paint the World

Paint the world with colors so warm,

Colors of love and colors adored.

    Fun colors of wishes dreamed;

Nothing in reality is what it seems.

    Reds, yellows, and tinted blues,

Behold all of lifes beautiful hues.

Luscious colors all around you,On top and belowthrough and through.

Radiant colors of summer and fall,

Look at the lovely bliss of them all.

    Reach out and touch a neighbor;

Do a friend an anonymous favor.

Spread the color, watch it grow,

    Mix and mingle, hues aglow.

    Travel all across the lands,

    Giving strangers your helping hand.

    Passing on your inner light,

Paint the world with loving insight.--Hanna Giles th
