Thirty.trvo samples of Thian's seeds were boughtl 'rom l ' ive traditional drug stores in Bangkok. All che-micals used were reagent grade. The comparisons ofthe cut surfaces of their seeds under a microscopewith tl ie r. lescriptions of crudg drugs, writtenby Hiroe6and Youngken,T were carried out in ord€r to findtheir botanical origins. The botanically identif iedcrude drugs were then studied phytochemically.Each crude drug was ground and extracted witl i ap-propriate solvents. The chemical constituents of each.extract were identil ied by color test and thin-layerchromatographic method.
