7. Do not oil cartridges and be sure towipe the chamber clean of any oil orpreservative before commencing to shoot.Oil interferes with the friction between car-tridge case and chamber wall that is nec-essary for safe functioning, and subjects
the firearm to stress similar to thatimposed by excessive pressure.
8. Use lubricants sparingly on the movingparts of your firearm. Avoid excessivespraying of any aerosol gun care product, especially where it may get on ammuni-tion. All lubricants and aerosol spray lubri-cants in particular, can penetrate cartridgeprimers and cause misfires. Some highlypenetrative lubricants can also migrate
inside shell cases and cause deteriorationof the propellant powder; on firing, thepowder may not ignite. If only the primerignites, there is danger that the wad maybecome lodged in the barrel.
•WARNING: Discharging firearms inpoorly ventilated areas, cleaningfirearms, or handling ammunition mayresult in exposure to lead and other sub-stances known to cause birth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious
physical injury. Have adequate ventila-tion at all times. Wash hands thoroughlyafter exposure.
How to Operate the Safety
Prior to firing, know and understand theoperation of the safety by practicing withthe shotgun unloaded.
The safety is a rectangular switch locatedon the tang of the action, directly behindthe top lever of the shotgun, which slidesforward and backward. When the switchis at the rear end of its travel, the letter“S”appears immediately in front of theswitch (see A). This means the shotgunwill not fire when the trigger is pulled. When the switch is in its forward-mostposition, the “S” is covered. This meansthe shotgun is NOT ON SAFE and will fire
when the trigger is pulled (see B).
•WARNING: The safety switch is notautomatic. In other words, it does notautomatically go to the SAFE positionwhen the shotgun breech is opened andclosed. It must be manually moved tothe SAFE position.
Never try to put the safety switch betweenthe SAFE and FIRE positions. Unless thesafety is positioned all the way forward orall the way to the rear, you cannot be cer-tain whether it is on SAFE or FIRE.
The safest way to carry this shotgun iswith NO shells in the chambers. If you feelthat you must carry the shotgun withshells in the chambers, then the safetymust be on SAFE. When you are ready to
fire, the safety can quickly be moved to

& D). Insert one or two shells of the prop-er gauge into the chambers.
Keeping you fingers away from the triggerand out of the action, close the action bypulling up on the barrels until it snapsshut. Do not use excessive force in clos-
3
the FIRE position. The only time the safe-ty should be placed in the FIRE position iswhen you intend to shoot.
•WARNING: Never disassemble thesafety mechanism. It has been correctlydesigned, f itted and tested. Any
mechanical device can fail, however, sonever rely on the safety to justify care-less handling. Never use a firearm witha safety that does not function properly.
How to Load
•WARNING: Never attempt to load yourshotgun with ammunition that does notmeet the cartridge designation stampedon the inside of the action. This designa-
tion is only visible when the shotgun’saction is open.
•WARNING: Before loading this firearm, always check the bores to be sure theyare free of grease, oil or any otherobstruction. Be sure the chambers areempty and the safety is on SAFE.
To open the action of the shotgun, firstmake sure the gun is pointed in a safedirection. With one hand, move the top
lever to the right as far as it will go (don’tuse excessive force – it should move eas-ily). With the other hand, pull down on thebarrels until the action is fully open (see C

ing the action – it should close easily andyou should hear an audible “click” as theaction locks. When the action is closedand locked, the top lever will return to itsformer position, pointing straight to therear (see E). If it does not do so, do not
attempt to fire the gun as the action is notfully locked. Damage to the gun and seri-ous injury to you or others may result.
Closing the action automatically cocks thefiring pins on both barrels. As soon as theaction is loaded and fully closed, the gunis cocked and ready to fire. Unless youintend to fire the gun as soon as it isloaded, the safety switch should be keptin the SAFE position.

How to Fire
With the gun pointed at the target, movethe safety to the FIRE position (all theway forward), aim, and pull the trigger. The selected barrel will fire. To fire the
second barrel, pull the trigger again. Ifyou don’t fire both shells, be sure to putthe safety on SAFE until you are ready toshoot again.
Firing Sequence Selection
The safety switch on the tang of yourshotgun has a dual function. In the centerof the switch is a button that can bemoved to the left or right. The position of
this button determines which barrel willfire first when the trigger is pulled. Whenthe button is moved to the right, a singlered dot is revealed (see F). The single dotmeans the bottom barrel has been select-ed to fire first. If the trigger is pulled again, the top barrel will then fire. If the shooterwishes the top barrel to fire first, the but-ton should be moved to the left, revealingtwo red dots (see G).
Selective Ejectors
Your shotgun is fitted with automatic ejec-tors that eject fired shells when the actionis opened. The ejectors will not ejectunfired shells. If two shells are loaded, butonly one has been fired, only the firedshell will be ejected (see H).
•WARNING: Take care not to point therear of the action toward yourself oranother person when opening the action. The fired shells are ejected with enough
force to cause possible eye injury.

Take-Down Instructions
If you wish to take-down your shotgun fortransport or storage, proceed as follows:
1. Place the safety switch on SAFE.
2. Make sure the shotgun is unloaded.3. In the center of the underside of theforearm stock, there is a release leverlocated in an oval depression in the wood(see I). To remove the forearm, pull therelease lever toward the rear of the gunwhile pulling the front end of the forearmaway from the barrels. With the forearmremoved, move the top lever to the rightand open the action. The barrels may
then be lifted away from the action.4. Reassemble in reverse order. It is notnecessary to pull the release lever whenre-installing the forearm. Place the rearend of the forearm in position, then pushthe forearm toward the barrels. It shouldsnap easily into place. Do not use exces-sive force.
NOTE: Further disassembly of your shot-gun is not recommended, and should bedone by an authorized gunsmith.
During freezing conditions, oil may con-geal and cause sluggish operation ofyour gun. It is recommended that only avery thin coat of light oil be used in theseconditions.
Condensation droplets of water will formsoon after a cold firearm is brought into awarm room. The gun may also becomewet during inclement weather. In these
cases, all moisture should be removedimmediately to avoid the formation of rust.Exterior metal finish may be wiped downwith a lightly oiled cloth.
For long term storage, lightly oil the bore, barrel and action with gun oil. Your
firearm should be completely unloadedand stored in a dry area. Never store yourfirearm in a carrying case.
Use of Steel Shot
•WARNING: Steel shot is substantiallyharder than lead shot. It is enclosed in aplastic wad in most reputable shotshellsto help protect the barrel from scoring bythe hard steel shot. However, when the
steel shot charge passes through thechoke constriction in the barrel, the bar-rel or screw-in choke may be damaged ifa tightly-constricted choke is in place. For that reason, we strongly recommendthat a choke of no greater constrictionthan Modified be used when firing steelshot in your shotgun. Use of anImproved Modified or Full choke whenfiring steel shot will void your warranty.
