About the CDM ProgramIn an effort to reduce world-wide greenhouse gas emissions,

developed and developing countries joined together under the

Kyoto Protocol to establish financial incentives for the initia-

tion of environmentally beneficial development projects, such

as installation of anaerobic digesters. One of these incentives, known as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), enables

developed countries to foster implementation projects that

    reduce emissions in developing countries.

LANDBANK serves as a coordinating and managing entity for

CDM Program of Activities (PoA) in the Philippines.

What LANDBANK OffersThrough the CDM PoA on Methane Recovery from Animal

    Waste Management Project, LANDBANK offers:

Information about wastewater methane recovery systems in

piggery farms that use open anaerobic systems to treatwastewater

Support and assistance in developing the methane recoveryproject

    Preparation of necessary forms

Facilitation of official endorsement, validation and verifica-tion activities

Support and assistance in project documentation and moni-toring

Financing assistance for the installation of the biogas

digester / methane recovery system Connection to technical assistance from partners: the U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency, the PhilippineDepartment of Science and Technology, the World Bank, and the Methane to Markets Partnership.

Participant Benefits Revenue from the sales of carbon credits

Lower transaction costs than implementing a stand-aloneproject

Simplified CDM documentation, validation and verificationprocesses

Cleaner production/compliance to environmental laws andregulations

    Project supportive of sustainable development

    Technical and capacity building assistance

Profiting from Pig Waste:CDM Financing and Services Available

    from LANDBANK

Is your farm using open anaerobic lagoons to treat wastewater?

By installing an anaerobic digestion system, you can capture

methane gas and convert it to electricity for use on the farm.

Environmental benefits include reduced odors, reduced emissions,

and improved wastewater treatment. In addition, by participating in

LANDBANKs Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program you can reap additional

benefits including revenue from the sale of emission reduction credits and possible

    financial assistance.

Eligibility The piggery farm manages its livestock under confined

    conditions

The pig manure or the streams obtained after treatmentis not discharged into natural water resources such as

rivers and estuaries; The piggery currently uses an open anaerobic system

with no methane recovery and destruction by flaring, combustion or gainful use

The current retention time of manure waste within theanaerobic system must be greater than one (1) month

The depth of the current anaerobic lagoon is at leastone (1) meter

The project proponent has signed an MOA with LBP forthe intent to purchase and sell the Certified EmissionReductions

The piggery is compliant with the applicable environ-

    mental laws
