You may have noticed a delay in the release of this newsletter which is due to the amount of information we wish to provide. It’s been a very busy last five months with the culmination of our biggest project yet, the building renovation. You can follow the progress of this remarkable work by going to our web site – www.ozcf.com and clicking on the ‘News and Events’ button. A real team is made up of people who may be unequal in experience or talent, but who are equal in their commitment to working together to achieve the goals for the good of the organization. We have volunteers who are giving their time and expertise to make this project a success and build upon the foundation of the ZRCC property. We have had people come forth and donate towards various parts of the project, thus reducing our overall expenditure. We have had volunteers spend valuable time in searching for the best value for money on products and services which all helps in keeping our costs down. We must look at the bigger picture and resolve to work in ways we may never have done before. Such teamwork requires commitment and effort, a willingness to accept the uniqueness of others, and an appreciation of diversity. I would like to encourage you to continue this amazing work for our association and donate your time as volunteers, donate towards the building renovation, come up with innovative fundraising ideas, support the many events that are being run by the OZCF and be part of our showcase event, the Gala on May 23, 2009. Building Update OPEN HOUSE TO BE HELD MARCH 15, 2009 The building work is progressing very well although there have been some delays and setbacks to our schedule due to the adverse weather conditions. We have been providing regular updates via written text and photographs on our website (http://www.ozcf.com) under the News and Events section. Please do visit our web site if you have not already done so to witness this remarkable change. Although the building is in its final stages of construction, it may still be a while before we can open, as we work on obtaining the occupancy permits and approvals from the Fire Marshall, Building inspectors, City of Oakville, etc. The pictures on our web site will show you the amazing transformation that has been possible due to your continued support and generous donations towards this project. This is truly a team effort by a multitude of our volunteers, donors and supporters who have come forward offering assistance and finances to meet the demands of the project and provide a building for the community. Every effort has been made to maintain the scope of the project and at the same time be vigilant about costs and needs. However, most projects experience some additional costs which normally come about due to legal requirements and unforeseen expenses; this project is no different. We will update you at the forthcoming open house. We would like to invite all members to come for an open house of the building on Sunday, March 15, 2009 between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Here you can see first hand the transformation and speak with those involved in the project about the work that has been done. Rumi Jasavala

RECENT EVENTS

Joint OZCF/ ZSO New Year’s Eve The Joint New Year’s Event between the OZCF and ZSO was held at the Woodbine Banquet Hall on December 31, 2008. 166 people attended the party, and thoroughly enjoyed the food and entertainment. Darius Bharucha was the emcee of the party and did a wonderful job. A 60/40 Raffle was held and $1,000 was collected. Mr. Sam Vesuna won the raffle money which he donated back to the Joint Committee. Thank you to the organizers of the event, who did a fantastic job. Children’s Christmas Party Thirty-five girls and boys enjoyed a great Christmas Party on December 13, 2008 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Mississauga. Parents and children alike shared an afternoon playing various games, pigging out on burgers and fries (it was Christmas after all!) and even having jolly St. Nick drop in to pay a visit. Since Christmas is never complete without gifts, each child was the recipient of some Christmas loot as Santa had in his Claus to provide presents for all the young folk. Thank you to all in the Entertainment Committee for adding even greater cheer for our children in the Holiday Season. OZCF Family Skate This was the 2

nd year this event was held with overwhelming success on December 21, 2008 at the River Oaks

Recreation Centre. The event attracted families with children ranging from the young to the not so young. Our youngest was 4 months old being pushed around in a stroller! We even had a surprise in the form of Santa Claus turning up. “Having the ice all to ourselves was great and made it more fun” said one attendee.

Item of Interest Obama's Inaugural Tuxedo's Indian Connection The following is an excerpt of an article that appeared in India West, News Report, by Sunita Sohrabji, Dated Dec 26, 2008. President-elect Barack Obama ordered his inaugural tuxedo six months ago while still on the campaign trail, revealed the Mumbai-born head of the company that is custom-making the outfit for him. "We've been supporters of Senator Obama from the day he first ran for office in 2004," Homi Patel, CEO and chairman of the Chicago-based Hartmarx Corp, told India-West. "We've been working with his staff for the past six months," he said. Obama will be wearing a one-button black wool tuxedo with satin notch lapels, made by Hart Schaffner Marx, for the inaugural's evening celebrations. The president-elect will also wear an HSM suit and topcoat while taking the oath of office Jan. 20. Hartmarx is HSM's parent company. Obama has been wearing the HSM brand on the campaign trail, said Patel, adding that the president-elect had called him six months ago to arrange his inaugural wear. Obama wore a navy blue cashmere suit from HSM for his acceptance speech Nov. 4. The 136-year-old company was the logical choice for Obama's bespoke suits, said Patel, adding that it manufactures all its clothes in the U.S., and is a union company. Asked whether Obama was the highest-profile person the company has outfitted, Patel said no. "We've done presidents before, on both sides of the aisle," he told India-West. Patel said he was not allowed to reveal Obama's size nor any details of the clothes, such as cost. Patel joined Hartmarx 28 years ago, after completing his MBA at Columbia University, and worked his way up. He has been Hartmarx's CEO since 2001. The India-based Daily News and Analysis Web site reported that Patel's father was the chief accountant of the Central Bank of India, while his uncle Dr. Jal Patel was the physician to the viceroy of India, the governor of Bombay and Mohammed Ali Jinnah before independence. Jal Patel also served as physician to JRD Tata, until his death. Brothers Harry and Max Hart opened a small men's clothing store on Chicago's State Street in 1872, called Harry Hart and Brother, which became Hart Schaffner Marx eight years later.

Your generosity and kindness continues to make this association run smoothly. We have generously been receiving donated items for OZCF for which we are very grateful. However, we would encourage you to run the item by Cyrus Gazdar or Rumi Jasavala first so that we are able to make use of it in the correct manner and without incurring any further costs and to ensure we don't already have another donor working on the same item. Thank you!
