An introduction for a five-paragraph essay, at its most basic, has six things:

A hookA thesis

Supporting idea #1Supporting idea #2Supporting idea #3

A concluding statement

I want these in separate sentences.

We spend approximately 70% of our time in school, but some people think we need more time in school.

However, lengthening more hours for school days has some disadvantages for students and teachers.

First, students will lack private time if the school day is made longer.

Second, students can study by themselves at home, so they don’t need a longer school day.

Last, teachers will have to work longer—something that might make their work worse.

Despite all the reasons against it such as a lack of private time, no time for home studying, and longer work hours, some still want to make the school day longer; I’ll explain why that’s a bad idea.

• We spend approximately 70% of our time in school, but some people think we need more time in school. However, lengthening more hours for school days has some disadvantages for students and teachers. First, students will lack private time if the school day is made longer. If students are in school all day, they won’t have any time to themselves—which can impact students negatively. Second, students can study by themselves at home, so they don’t need a longer school day. In fact, students can learn material more efficiently if they are given time to study the material on their own. Last, teachers will have to work longer—something that might make their work worse. It’s clear from my experience that teachers who work too many hours are worse teachers. Despite all the reasons against it such as a lack of private time, no time for home studying, and longer work hours, some still want to make the school day longer; I’ll explain why that’s a bad idea.
