Alex Welch, Wrestling

Welch, a freshman, made his first appearance as a varsity LN wrestler against LC last week, picking up a win against the Bears at 128 lbs. He gets it done in

the classroom as well, posting a 3.7 GPA! Great job, Alex! Check out the cool story on Alex right

Cheerleading: The LN Cheerleaders will be conducting a “Future Wildcats” winter cheerleading camp on January 27th from 9:00am – 12:00pm in the LN Fieldhouse. The team will be teaching materials that will be performed at halftime of the boys’ basketball games against Fishers that night. Participants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt, cheer bow, and a ticket to the game. Participants will arrive at LN at 6:00pm to prepare to cheer with the LN cheer squad during the game! Girls Basketball: The #5 Wildcats (18-4, 4-2 MIC) beat two ranked teams last week at home. First, the Cats took care of 13th ranked HSE with a come from behind 42-39 victory. It was a great win for the team, as they were down 37-30 and then went on a 12-2 run to close out the last four minutes of the 4th quarter. 5th ranked North Central visited LN on Saturday, and went home with a 55-38 loss. The Wildcats were in control the entire game. Next up is senior night on Tuesday against Fishers, and then the regular season finale at Center Grove on Friday night. The Wildcats will be hosting the IHSAA sectional, and the draw was announced Sunday evening. LN gets Warren Central in the opening round. Boys Basketball: The #12 Wildcats (11-4, 1-2 MIC) traveled to MIC rival North Central on Friday night, coming away with a solid 58-47 win over the Panthers. In the 4th quarter, the defense got a couple of key steals to put the game out of reach. The Wildcats then traveled to Converse, Indiana on Saturday, the home of the 2A #8 Oak Hill Golden Eagles. Oak Hill is also the alma mater of head coach Jack Keefer and where the Hall of Famer started his coaching career. The Wildcats beat Oak Hill, 61-37, but the story was the hometown “kid” coming back home. Coach Keefer was recognized before the game, met several of his former Oak Hill players from the early 70’s, and received a standing ovation from the crowd. The Oak Hill team presented the Wildcat players commemorative t-shirts for the event. Boys/Girls Swimming: The teams will be hosting the 3rd annual JV Winter Classic on Saturday, a seven team event designed as a championship meet for the junior varsity athletes. The girls’ varsity team is training for the IHSAA sectional championships next week, hosted by LN. The boys team also has this week off and will focus on training. Wrestling: The LN wrestlers traveled to Lawrence Central on Wednesday night to take on the Bears. At the end of the event, the Wildcats and Bears were tied 28-28. The Bears were rewarded the victory after the 4th criteria. Ironically, this is exactly what happened last year when the Cats beat the Bears on criteria at LN in 2017. Karsten Harsbarger won by pin for LN. The wrestler of the match was Alex Welch, who got a win at 128 lbs for the Wildcats! The team is now preparing for the IHSAA sectionals. 7th and 8th Grade Boys Basketball Teams MIIC Champs! A special shout out to the Fall Creek Valley 7th and 8th grade

boys’ basketball teams. Both teams took the MIIC Conference Championship last week! The 7th graders

finished the season undefeated at 23-0 and the 8th graders went 21-2. Great job, Cats!
