What is Externship?

An externship is an opportunity for a student to engage in practice based learning, by actively participating in a field of interest. It is very similar to an internship, but is generally of a shorter duration. Externships also tend to be less extensive than internships, and students may or may not receive academic credit for them, depending on the institution they attend. The term “extern”is also used to refer to a medical professional who is associated with a facility, but is not considered a full time member of the staff.

In the legal profession, the terms externship and internship are used interchangeably. Neither is shorter, both may be for credit, and no one seems to know why some are called one and some the other.

What is Internship?

An intern is someone who works in a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment, making it similar to an apprenticeship. Interns are usually college or university students, but they can also be high school students or post graduate adults seeking skills for a new career.

Internship positions are available in various areas at Samadhan. Due to strict labor laws, Indian social internships are mostly unpaid, in order to gain international exposure on one's Résumé and for foreign work experience this is a good opportunity.

In short Externship & Internship are the two side of the same coin.
