‘Enjoying the Weekend Together.’

It’s at the weekends when some of the children are most likely to cause trouble. Unfortunately we dont have the funding or volunteer to open the centre at weekends.Jodie, Manager of John Boste Youth Centre

“We hang around street corners and go to the park.”

“I would like to go to the pictures but I don’t always have money.”

“I want more places to go. The youth centre should be open.”

Microwave Bottle Steriliser

Award winning and available on Shelf!

One of my projects at Tommee Tippee was to re-design the existing Closer to Nature microwave bottle steriliser.

The challenge was to remove as much excess material and cost as possible, improve the aesthetic and ensure the Closer to Nature Bottles could be stacked to save space and allow for efficient steam sterilising.

From examining and testing the existing steriliser I discovered the following:

Shorter users found it hard to load the •steriliser correctly because they could not see inside when it was placed on a work top.It was difficult to remember where to stack •the disassembled bottles. The steriliser did not represent the values •of the premium Closer to Nature brand. Microwave Bottle Steriliser

The steriliser was developed through sketch work, CAD models and regular meetings with the management team.

The final concept has a curved split line and rippled steam outlet to fit within the brand. The curved split line allows better reach into the steriliser to stack the components.

The overall form is smaller, reducing the impact on the environment and manufacturing costs.

The tray inside is intuitive, limiting the mistakes made when filling the steriliser for more effective sterilisation.

Praised by Mars for being well rounded and considered.

This project was carried out in a multidisciplinary team of four, which allowed the team to ensure that all areas of expertise were covered.

The team delivered a brand experience, relevant and unique product packaging, point of sale design, advertising and launch campaign, backed up by a business plan.

The brief and exact project outcome is confidential, however the process has been documented.

Service Diagrams for Endeavour’s Hestia

Hestia provide housing for women with complex needs and help them learn how to live independent lives. Their service involves many stakeholders and systems to check the health and lifestyle of the users.

Within a multidisciplinary team, I was responsible for analysing and picking apart information from written reports and transforming it into service maps, which were easy to navigate and appreciated by the service providers.

A more natural way to weigh breastfed babies

eenie improves the experience of weighing babies when breastfeeding by enabling parents to weigh their baby in a relaxed and familiar environment; their home. They still have the suppor t of their health visitor when they need it, as well as the added benef it of access to the eenie babies online community.

Peace of Mind

The idea is a really good and I like how it looks. I like the fact that it is soft and warm. - Sian, Mother who has previously experienced breast feeding diff iculties,

The project demonstrates thinking out from the problem to the conceptual design and f inal realisation of a product. - Nick Price, Senior User Experience Researcher, Microsoft Corporation

The insight which you took as a star ting point seems to be a very good one, the dilemmas you identif ied are conf irmed in our market research. The way you have translated these to the eenie concept is excellent. - Geer t Christiaansen, Director of Business Development Philips Design

It’s a very good design with obvious benef its over today’s solutions and would appeal to f irst time anxious mums.- Tina Gray, Design Manager at Tommee Tippee ”

A Need to Encourage Breastfeeding It is particularly important to make sure that breastfed babies are thriving because unlike bottlefed babies, parents cannot see how much milk their child has taken.

England has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in Europe.

- The Department of Health

A Need to Improve the Experience Weighing Clinics can cause distress to breastfeeding parents, whose babies grow at a different rate to bottlefed babies.

“You feel like you’re being judged on how you’re well you’re feeding her.”

“Weight gain has been our only reassurance that all is okay as we are exclusively breastfeeding.”

“Parents feel responsible for bringing up a healthy baby; not gaining enough weight can be stressful.”

“Some babies don’t like being weighed. They wriggle and hit their head on the hard plastic.”

“I’m having problems breastfeeding Harry and I’m worried he’s not growing properly!”

“I think you should try eenie weighing to see how Harry is growing and to guide you through breastfeeding.”

“Ooh look how cute it is, like a little egg! I can’t wait to see how you look laying on it Harry!”

“Now let’s see how this thing works Harry. Doesn’t look diff icult.”

“I’ll weigh Harry before and after this feed to get an idea of how much he’s taking.”

“I don’t mind taking your clothes off to lay on here, it’s nice and soft unlike the ones in the cold church hall!”

“Hello Harry, watch me pull faces at you! Good boy for staying still!”

“Gurgle gurgle!”

“I’ll pop this on my keys.”

“I’ll quickly and automatically transfer this reading for later.”

“I’ll push this under the cot so it won’t be in the way.”

“Harry’s f irst eenie reading on his very own prof ile!”

“Please can I take a look at Harry’s weight records Mrs Wood?”

“It looks like this breastfeeding counsellor might be able to answer my question...”

“I’m really happy and comfortable with breastfeed-ing now thanks to eenie support.”

“I think Harry’s okay to be weighed less often now, you can still access the community and use the software though.”

“I’m here to collect the weighing scales, Mrs Wood.”
