Wednesday evenings October 2 with Pastor Ollie

The Church Office will be CLOSED

Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.

The Trinity Church Council was called to order on June 18th by President Melodee Pedersen. Pastor Brandon led the recharge with the “Decision Making in Leadership – Managing Uncertainty and Choices.” Minutes from the May Council Meeting and Financial Report were approved.

Plans for the 2019 Raise the Roof event and the continuation of future Raise the Roof fundraiser events was discussed. Proceeds from the 2019 fundraiser event will be used to update the main bathrooms and for tuition assistance.

The parsonage property has been sold with an anticipated July 1st closing date.

Two concerns are being brought forward to the Property Committee: the stairs leading to the altar and railings on the side stairs.

To welcome Pastor Ollie Fullmer and his wife Karen to Trinity, “warm wishes” cards will be available the weekend of June 22-23 for Trinity members to write a card for the Fullmer Family.

The meeting was adjourned and the Trinity Church Council joined in prayer.

The next Trinity Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 6 pm. The Trinity Church Council is not scheduled to meet in July.

Sept. 15, 22 & 29 “USING MY BIBLE” Class

Third graders and parents will experience a fun overview of the Bible to see how the entire Bible fits together as a single story from God and the unique piece each of us plays in that same story. The last session will be exploring their new Bible and learning the very basics of how to use it.

If you have a third grader and have NOT received an invitation in the mail, please call the church office (564-8547) and let Glenda know. If you know parents who have third graders and do not have a church home, do invite them. We will make room!

We look forward to celebrating this faith-building step with these families!

From the Pastor: Pastor Brandon Foster

“On This Rock” – based on Matthew 16:13-20

September is the start of lots of new things. Maybe your first child is starting school (pick me!); maybe your baby is starting college; maybe you’re starting your first month of retirement. Whatever is going on, September is a time of new beginnings. And we’re at the start—which means that before too long an adjustment is coming into our lives.

In our relationship with God, faith has a starting point to which everything else hinges on. That starting point is distinct. It carries memories of the past with it, but it also exposes a broad future. Some adjusting will come, but it’s good for us to have starting points. Some of us distinctly remember those faith starting points; some of us don’t. Some of us aren’t even there—but that still doesn’t take away from its importance.

As I was thinking about starting points this morning, I read about Peter in Matthew 16. The Apostle Peter had a distinct and powerful starting point. And it happened in a pretty normal time of hanging out. As he was hanging out with Jesus, Jesus asked a simple question to His close friends. He asks them, “Who do people say I am?”

Even though this is a seemingly simple question, it’s also a powerful one. When Jesus asks this question, He is hitting on the thoughts of the popular opinions of the crowd. Jesus knows there are some ideas out there about Him. He also knows those opinions tend to shape our views.

It’s interesting because this question still lingers around. It’s one we can ponder and even answer as though Jesus were asking us. People still have opinions about Jesus today. Most say He was a good, moral teacher. Some say He didn’t exist. Others say He’s dangerous.

Jesus lets His friends answer. Jesus lets those answers still linger. But He plans better for us than to let popular opinion win the day. That’s why He quickly asks another question. He wants to know not what others think but what they believe. So He poses a new question: “Who do you say I am?”

Peter, as the group’s leader, immediately answers who he believes Jesus is. Peter is quick with what he says (which is often the case with this guy), but it reveals the power of a great starting point. It’s this moment that a new beginning happens for him.

Notice something here: when Jesus begins to respond to Peter, He calls him “Simon.” Jesus is reminding him of his past and who he was. But Jesus doesn’t leave it there—He gives him a new name and vision for his future. Jesus calls him “Peter.” With this name, Simon’s life was going to have new purpose and plans—plans for not just him but for the whole of the Church in history. Peter’s confession is the new beginning for the Church.

This new beginning is powerful for us because we stand firmly on it. But Jesus’ question to Peter is also for us to answer. And our response will guide us in a plan of building the church and sharing the Gospel (that’s what Jesus means about binding and loosing). Jesus wants us to go out to share the message of God coming to this world to give us a starting point with Him.

For each of you, there is a starting point to be had. Maybe you remember it; maybe you don’t. Maybe your starting

point is right here. Jesus wants to build you into His church and to point you to a better future. Will you trust Him to

begin something new in your life?

The message in the movie, I CAN ONLY

IMAGINE, is that life is sometimes

painfully challenging. Wounds can be

deep and slow to heal, but forgiveness

is powerful and redemption is possible.

God works all things out according to

His purposes and in His perfect timing.

Bart Millard risked a great deal to share

his story with the world. He did so with

the hope that his life story might

intersect with and impact someone

else’s story—maybe your story or the

story of someone you know.

As our story intersects with God’s story,

we realize just how big our God is and

how much He has in store for each one

of us.

We invite you to embark on a

journey through the Gospels to discover

Jesus’ encounters with broken people.

Explore scripture, reflective stories, and

prayer—-all working together to reveal
