LATINISMS & LATIN PHRASES
Pierpaolo & Fedeico
Ora et labora
“Ora et labora”, is actually the motto of the monks Benettini and comes from the exhortation of St. Benedict who
lived in the VI century.
Post scriptum
• Often, after having finished the letter we remember to have forgotten something important. According to the conventions of the epistolary style, we add new text at the bottom of the letter, with the initials P.S., an abbreviation that means post scriptum.
Facsimile
• The imperative of the verb “facio” entered into some Latin phrases still in use to indicate a person who takes care of everything we talk about: “factotum” and to indicate an exact reproduction of a writing or object: “facsimile”.
