Funds EFs can be clasified as follows:

Multipurpose EFs: large range of activities included in the national environmental plans or strategies.

Specialized EFs: protect a specific ecosystem or protected area.

Regional EFs: such as the Meso American Reef Fund (MAR Fund), the first in Latin America and Caribbean

Global EFs: French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)
