Writing Our Icon5 Year Aniversary San Damiano Cross

OFMMeet the Artist

Creating our cross is called “writing an icon.” The process began

with pencil sketches.

Each brush stroke represented a prayer for our community.

Every symbol of the painting fits together precisely to tell the story of Salvation

Our Lord’s death and resurrection.

Can you spot the rooster? This bird is symbolic of the one that crowed three times during Jesus’ passion.

When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd,

his heart was moved with pity for them,

for they were like sheep without a shepherd;

and he began to teach them many things.
