Last week John the Apostle took us into the throne room of heaven where we beheld the altar that covers the martyrs, the altar of incense, the Crystal sea, the elders, and the four living creatures all positioned around the throne of the Lord God Almighty. Chapter 5 is a continuation of the same scene. John is still watching with awe what happens in the throne room of Heaven. Rev. 5:14 1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals? 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. WHAT IS THE SCROLL? Title Deed to Creation The document that states the legal owner of creation. WHAT IS THE SCROLL? Title Deed to Creation The document that states the legal owner of creation. The Will and Testament of the Father A Roman Will always had seven seals and could only be opened by the heir. WHAT IS THE SCROLL? The Will and Testament of the Father A Roman Will always had seven seals and could only be opened by the heir. WHAT IS THE SCROLL? The Scroll of Destiny A description of events that must take place for the foreordained consummation of history. WHAT IS THE SCROLL? The Scroll of Destiny A description of events that must take place for the foreordained consummation of history. It is all of this and more. As we shall see, the One who is able to open this scroll shall take possession of the Kingdom. He shall be crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and He shall reign over the earth forever. WHO IS WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL AND BREAK ITS SEALS? Who is worthy to be the heir of all of creation? WHO IS WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL AND BREAK ITS SEALS? Who is worthy to be the heir of all of creation? WHO IS WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL AND BREAK ITS SEALS? Who is worthy to complete the plans and purposes of God? WHO IS WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL AND BREAK ITS SEALS? Who is worthy to complete the plans and purposes of God? Who is worthy, or at this point we might say able, to bring about those things that will accomplish the foreordained consummation of history? No one in heaven, on the earth, or under the earth was worthy to open the scroll. John wept for no man was worthy. The word here for wept is the strongest of the three Greek words meaning to cry. He wept as a soul in the deepest distress. He wept as one weeps when he tears his garments in anguish. Revelation 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals. Who is the Lion of Judah? Search on lion and Judah and you find Gen. 49: Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your fathers children shall bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lions whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? 10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. Who was born from tribe of Judah, born to reign, and owed obedience? Jesus! Jesus! Who is The Root of David? Search root and David and you find Rev 22:16 I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star. Also of interest is Is. 11:1, 10 1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 10 And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious. Jesse was Davids father. Rev. 5: 6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Who is the Lamb Who has been slain? Search lamb with slain or kill or slaughter. Is. 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. Also Acts 8:32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. In Acts, Phillip is talking to the Ethiopian, and Phillip says the lamb is Jesus! Who else says the lamb is Jesus? John the Baptist John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! Rev. 5: Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. 8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;And we shall reign on the earth. Why is Jesus worthy? Because Jesus was slain. Jesus redeemed us to God by His blood. Jesus redeemed people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. Why is Jesus worthy? Because Jesus was slain. Jesus redeemed us to God by His blood. Jesus redeemed people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. THAT DAY SHALL BE CORONATION DAY. That day the Risen Christ shall be crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords. THAT DAY SHALL BE CORONATION DAY. That day the Risen Christ shall be crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Rev. 5:1114 11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing! 13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever! 14 Then the four living creatures said, Amen! And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. Warren Wiersbe in his Expository Outlines of the New Testament contrasts Jesus life on earth with His exaltation in heaven. I will read the Scripture describing Christ on earth. You respond like the elders and the living creatures concerning Christ in heaven. He is worthy of praise! John 19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God. He is worthy of power! Matt. 12:24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons. He is worthy of riches! 2 Cor. 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. He is worthy of wisdom! 1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. He is worthy of strength! 2 Cor. 13:4 For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you. He is worthy of honor! John 8:49 Jesus answered, I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. He is worthy of glory! John 8:50 And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges. He is worthy of blessing! Gal. 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree),
