Here is a testimonial from Lynda and Jeff Sherman about their 13 year old Dalmation, Guinevere, who was constantly falling and could barely walk because of leg and spinal arthritis. “At the end of Guinevere’s bi-weekly, 3 week la- ser therapy we saw improvement. We continued weekly therapy and after two months her stability has increased substantially. I can’t remember the last time she fell over. Not only can she walk outside on her own again, but she is walking up and down the steps of the deck. The bounce is back in her step and the happiness in her eyes reminds me that she still enjoys life. Laser therapy has proven to be an amazing service, without it we prob- ably wouldn’t have her today. Guinevere is truly a testa- ment to the positive effects of such treatment.” If you think your pet could benefit from Compan- ion Laser Therapy, talk to our doctors at 614-276-5479.

Testing Your Best Friend to Avoid Deadly Enemies! Lyme disease, erlichiosis and heartwormarethecountry’sthreemostcommonchronicinfectionsindogs. Quite often, your dog can carry one or more of these life-threatening diseases and not show any signs. Suburban Animal Clinic uses the Snap 3DX Blood Test to screen all adult dogs during their annual visit. We can quickly determine if your dog has contracted any of the 3 diseases. Lyme disease is carried by the deer tick that can be found in woods, ponds, parks, playgrounds and in your own backyard. Dogs infected with Lyme disease can suffer from lameness, fever, joint swelling, kid-ney failure and heart problems. Dogs at risk can be protected with a canine Lyme vaccine. Lyme disease affectspeopletoo! Canine erhlichiosis is the second most common infectious disease in the U.S. Several common dog ticks carry this potentially life-threatening disease. Left untreated, your dog can suffer from loss of appetite and depression to autoimmune disease, bleeding complications and even death. There is no vaccine but early detection can lead to successful treatment. The third part of our testing screen is for heartworm disease. This parasitic worm is carried to your dogbythebiteofamosquitoandmakes itshomein thedog’sbloodstreamorheart. Leftuntreated,heartwormdiseasecancausedifficultybreathing,heartdamageanddeath.Monthlyheartwormpreventa-tives can eliminate the larvae in a dog, but have no effect on adult worms. The 3DX test checks for adult worms. Thesymptomsofallthreediseasemybehiddeninearlystages, soit’sveryimportanttohaveyourdog tested during every annual visit or if you suspect your dog has been exposed to ticks. For more infor-mation on tick and heartworm prevalence, go to www.petsandparasites.org and click on “Parasites in the News.” What to do?

Use monthly heartworm preventative like Heartgard Plus, Interceptor, Sentinel, or Advantage Multi. Give them year round to control intestinal parasites and prevent heartworm disease.

Harmful effects of these serious diseases can be prevented or successfully treated through early detec-tion by the Snap 3DX test for your dog.

What’s News at Suburban • Suburban Animal Clinic welcomes our new-est Veterinary Technician, Jenny Moore. She graduated from the Columbus State Community College Vet Tech program in March with honors. She also has a marketing degree from the Fisher College of Business at OSU. The Dayton native has a rabbit named Ramsey and a Corgi dog name Ellie. She loves cooking, traveling and is engaged to be married next year. Jenny says she is excited to work with clients, pets and staff at Suburban. • We appreciate all of you who fill out yourpet’sRisk Factor Questionnaire form. This infor-mation helps us determine the appropriate vac-cines and preventative health care products your pet needs. When you up-date your Client Infor-mation Profile, this allows us to make sure we have telephone, mail and e-mail contacts so we can communicate effectively. • We can always put to good use gently used or new towels and blankets for hospitalized pets. These items keep pets warm and dry during their stay with us. Thank you. • On Thursday March 4th Suburban Animal Clinic participated in the annual fundraising event for Goodwill. Goodwill Columbus has been serv-ing the Central Ohio community since 1939. Last year, Goodwill Columbus provided 1.2 million hours of service to more than 3,200 people with disabilities and other barriers through training, job placement programs and work programs for individuals with mental retardation and develop-mental disabilities. Suburban Animal Clinic sub-mitted a basket full of dog toys, grooming prod-ucts, a free exam with Dr. Stafford and other goodies for the silent auction. We hope to see thewinnerandtheirpetsoon!
