What is Laser Liposuction?

Laser Liposuction, or Laser Lipo, is an ideal treatment for those who seek to rejuvenate certain areas of their bodies but may be intimidated by traditional liposuction.

The concept is simple: lasers heat the fat, turning it semi-soft and making it easier to remove via liposuction.

How is fat stored?

Fat is used in the body to store energy. When we eat and have extra calories that we might want to use later, our bodies turn the calories into fat and store them for later use.

These fat cells can be thought of as being like balloons filled with fat - then groups of these cells are held together by loose connective tissue.

Therefore fat cannot “flow” between different areas - it stays in the areas that it is formed in.

Are You a Laser Lipo Candidate?

If you have mild to moderate amounts of excess fat and skin laxity, laser lipo may work for you. Skin tends to become lax after about age 35.

If you are about 20 percent overweight or less, you are probably a good candidate for liposuction of the face, abdomen or other body area.

If you are in good physical condition and have good muscle tone, you will likely respond very well to laser liposuction because your muscles will provide underlying support for the tissues.

Risks of Laser Liposuction

Some laser liposuction risks are the same as traditional liposuction risks, including possible irregularity in your skin contour.

Fluid can collect beneath the skin. Infection, scars, blisters and burns are other possibilities.

Added to these is the potential for fat necrosis (death of fat cells) when a laser is used.

Be sure to carefully consider every risk of liposuction before deciding to undergo the procedure.

Laser Liposuction Benefits

Remove excess fat deposits from your face and body that may not respond to diet and exercise

Use a less-invasive laser that melts fat, only requires a local anesthetic and promotes a quick recovery

Slim and reshape areas of the body, as well as reduce sagging and create a smoothly contoured surface that will improve your body’s appearance and boost self-image
