swood Primary Sports News & Fixtures

Sports Relief last week was amazing! The enthusiasm of the children and adults who took part was inspiring! Eve-

ry child attempted to squeeze out an extra lap in their given time and all of the adults shouted words of encour-

agement and/or ran around with the children to show their support.

Overall, it was a humbling experience to witness so many children doing their part to raise awareness of those

who are less fortunate - it's shows great empathy towards others!

I am still waiting for results of the number of laps each class has completed, so I will update the newsletter once I

know.

A special thank you to the parent who volunteered and helped out on the day - you really helped to make the day

special for all of the children!

You all helped to raise nearly £400!!

Watch this space for the next whole school sporting event!

UPDATE

Well Done Kai!!

Kai in Year 6 achieved a great time in the

100m breaststroke at the Essex County

Swimming Association. Kai finished 3rd with

a great time of 1 minute and 29 seconds.

What a great achievement. We are very

proud of you.

New Balls Please!! The school have decided that we will be providing children and clas-ses with balls to use at break time and lunch time.

Over the past week, we have had sponge footballs, basket-balls and soft tennis balls being delivered to the school. The aim of this is the develop the idea of inclusion, where all of the children in each class will be able to share in the games with the class ball. Additionally, children who have brought in their own balls will not lose their balls, meaning it will cost parents/carers money to replace them. A time table has been drafted up, ready to be implemented as of next week, so please bear with us while we try to make ensure the children have the opportunities to have fun, en-joyable and competitive games during break time and lunch time. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Olympic athlete Tosin Oke will be visiting Larkswood on

Tuesday, 1st April to give an inspirational talk to the children about his

amazing sporting achievements.

Tosin is a Nigerian track and field athlete, who competes in the triple jump. Born a dual national, he initially competed for Britain. He set the current UK junior indoor record and was 1 cm shy of the outdoor jun-ior record. He was the 1999 European Athletics Junior Championships Champion, and came 5th at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

After multiple indoor and outdoor UK titles, he later switched to compete for Nigeria. Since competing for Nigeria he has won back-to-back African Championships in Athletics titles and is the current Com-monwealth Games Champion and All-Africa Games Champion. At the 2012 Summer Olympics Oke fin-ished seventh in the triple jump final, the best Nigerian result of the Games.
