Two Models – Both AsVersatile As You AreThe Challenger LB34B and LB44Blarge square balers deliver bales ofconsistent quality – the right density,the right size and the right weight –whether you’re baling straw or hay.The LB34B model will also make lightwork of silage. Precision is now thewatchword of modern agriculture, sothe Challenger LB B Series has beenengineered to the highest standardsto give you exactly that. Bale densityand weight are calculated to makeoptimum use of transport and storage.

When you’re making bales, timing isof the essence, which is why theplunger speed on the ChallengerLB44B is a full 25 % faster thanprevious baler standards. No surprise,then, that a significant boost in outputis achievable. The bales are bigger,too at 1.2 m x 1.28 m, while theLB34B allows flexibility in storagewith bales measuring 1.2 m x .88 m.

Reliable, consistent throughput isdependent on Challenger’s mightilysolid build quality throughout themachine, from pick-up to ejector. Bothmodels are constructed a simple, rigidframe of top grade steel, on which allthe baler’s components are mounted,ensuring ease of access and ruggeddurability even in the most testingharvest conditions.

The fully-adjustable hitch, new on theLB44B, means these big balers canbe fitted to any tractor, while thegenerous ground clearance allowseven the bulkiest of crop swaths to bepassed over with ease. A tried andtested ball hitch provides a snug andimmensely secure union betweentractor and baler, although other ringor ball hitch connections can be fitted,if preferred.

Pick-UpChallenger’s design engineers havedevoted painstaking attention to detailto combine high output with a gentleand precise intake of crop into thebaler. The pick-up’s designincorporates a torsion bar suspensionsystem that rises and drops asuneven ground is encountered.

Four centering augers draw the cropinto the packers, giving a consistentlypositive feed, whatever the crop, andenabling the baler to operate atmaximum efficiency at all times.

The Perfect Bale Takes ShapeIt all starts with the Challenger pre-pack chamber system, where thepackers move the crop in to form theflake. As soon as an even density hasbeen achieved, the stuffer – which isprecisely synchronised with the plunger

– feeds the flake into the balechamber. And, because the stuffer willonly begin its cycle when the flake isready, perfect flakes result – timeafter time.

This simple system doesn’t requireany settings to be made – everythinghappens automatically, ensuringsilage bales keep their optimumnutritional content and hay and strawbales are solid and uniform.

This means faster, safer transport andmore efficient use of available storage.

Innovative design for the perfect harvest

The knotters are lubricated withan Auto-lube system. Forconvenient maintenance, thelube-interval can be set throughthe control monitor to suit your needs.

Challenger big square balers feature the double knotter system, pioneered at the renowned Hesston plant in theUSA, and proven to be the best knotting mechanism for balers in the world – even after a quarter of a century.To produce bales of the highest quality, the knotters are chain driven from the main gearbox, which ensures thatthe plunger, knotters and needles are in precisely the same timing cycle. It is often said that the best engineering isbased on simplicity of design, and the double knotter system is a perfect example, producing neat, rock-solid knotsat the highest bale density.

Performance is further boosted by the innovative knotter blower, which is powered by the baler’s integral hydraulicpump. This clever device blows air at a constant 140 km/h through the knotter stack, keeping the whole areacompletely free of debris at all times of operation.

No complicated mechanisms here. Just plain, simple, well engineered design leavingyou with super-solid, perfectly tied knots for compact, easily transportable bales.

Extremely practical,access to all areas of the balercouldn’t be easier, with wide-opening side panels and a separatecover on the flywheel. Twine refillswill be few and far between, thanksto the compact, 30-ball capacityrack, which sits at an angle of 30°for easier loading.

With their own hydraulic pumpproviding oil for the bale chamberdoors and the knotter blower,Challenger LB B large square balersare able to produce bales ofconsistent density, as the tractorhydraulics are not diverted awayfrom the mainstream baler functions.

Monitoring ProgressTotal control of the entire balingprocess is at your fingertips,courtesy of the highly versatile andsimple-to-use GTA I Console – thebest monitor in the field can becustomised to display all theinformation you need throughout thebaling operation. The top qualitycolour screen provides excellentclarity – day or night – and the baleritself is ISO-compliant, allowingconnection to any tractor with an ISO VT terminal.

Options And Benefits

Both models have an optional 65 km/h rated, self steeringtandem axle to further enhance thebalers performance.The tandem axle is fitted with500/45-22.5 tyres.

The LB34B can be specified with acutter featuring quick-select choplength and spring protection foreach length.

A bale ejector is fitted as standardon the LB34B.
