Laredo Development Foundation

The Laredo Development Foundation, formed in November 1966, is a private, non-profit corporationdedicated to the economic and industrial development of the Laredo economy. Nationally certifiedand recognized by the American Economic Development Council. The prime focus of the LDF isIndustrial Attraction, Workforce Development, Assistance to small business start-ups, as well asexpansion and retention of existing industry.

LDF activities are structured under four divisions, three operating and one internal:

• Industrial Attraction Division• Small Business Development Division• Special Projects Division• Administration Division

The Industrial Attraction Division is responsible for maintaining economic data for prospects,selecting target industries, encouraging new industries to locate in Laredo/Nuevo Laredo and helpingnew companies with the site-selection process and start-up operations.

The Small Business Development Division is responsible for operating an SBA-sponsored SmallBusiness Development Center to provide counseling and management training assistance to new

business ventures and for expanding existing companies, as well as for operating a Loan AssistanceCenter to prepare small business loan applications, especially those requiring SBA loan guarantees.

The Special Projects Division is responsible for preparing economic studies and forecasts,campaigning for needed educational resources and infrastructure projects and for assisting the BorderTrade Alliance and other groups in promoting border interests.

The Administration Division is responsible for contracts, adhering to strict financial procedures,annual audits, preparing financial statements, board minutes and staff reports as well as performingspecial tasks assigned by the board. Also responsible for staff training and maintaining membershipin the American Economic Council, the Southern Industrial Development Council and the TexasIndustrial Development Council.

The LDF is recognized by professionals as one of the finest Industrial Development Organizationson the U.S./Mexico border.
