Laparoscopic Training Courses

CUSP Advanced Laparoscopic Training or CALT is a divison of CUSP which deals with imparting Laparoscopic Surgical Skills to fellow Surgeons and Gynaecologists.

CUSP follows the dictum “To teach is to learn“. We understand the hardships faced by young surgeons and gynaecologists who struggle to get a good opportunity to learn the art of Laparoscopic surgery. Acquiring laparoscopic surgical skills is not difficult if you have a dedicated mentorship. Just by seeing and assisting, one can acquire significant confidence in minimally invasive surgeries. If someone is there to guide you through each and every minutest of steps, this journey becomes way easier.

CUSP team are leaders in field of Advanced Laparoscopy and Laparoscopic Oncosurgeries . We have a comprehensive training module for 3 months, 6 months and 1 year for the surgeons and gynaecologists interested in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

CUSP ensures monthly exposure of around 80 – 100 cases that a fellow will observe or assist. This will include complete teaching starting from basics of laparoscopy to advanced teachings and procedure. The fellows have to undergo basic training on endotrainer to develop a basic hand eye co ordination. The fellows will be assisting the team members in advanced cases like Bariatric Surgeries

and Laparoscopic Oncosurgeries and later on doing them in parts and under supervision.

Hands on training for common cases like laparoscopic cholecystectomy, ventral hernia, laparoscopic appendicectomy, total laparoscopic hysterectomy is given. The vision is to see our students operate independently but keeping in mind the Principles of safe laparoscopy.

FELLOWSHIP COURSES IN MINIMAL ASCESS SURGERY

1. BASIC COURSES

1. Diploma in Basic General Laparoscopy.

2. Diploma in Basic Gynaec Laparoscopy.

2. ADVANCED COURSES

1. CALT Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery.

2. CALT Diploma in Advanced Gynaec Laparoscopy.

3. CALT Diploma in Minimal Access Oncosurgery

Who is eligible?

BASIC COURSES Surgeons and Gynaecologists who have attained their post graduate degree from any university in India or Abroad and wish to pursue Minimal Access Surgery as a career.

ADVANCED COURSES

1. Surgeons and Gynaecologists who have attained their post graduate degree from any University in India or Abroad and are already practising Basic procedures in Minimal Access Surgery and wish to enhance their spectrum into more advanced surgeries.

2. GI and Onco surgeons who with to progress their work to Advanced Minimal Access Surgical Techniques.

What is the duration of the course?

BASIC COURSES

They are of 3 and 6 months duration.

ADVANCED COURSES

The advanced Courses are of 12 months duration.

Are there any shorter duration courses as well?

We organise short courses ranging from 15 to 30 days in batches. These courses teach you the basics of laparoscopy, equipment details and basic hand eye coordination and are recommended for beginners who wish to explore whether they can be good MA Surgeons . What is theStructure of training and expected skills?

BASIC COURSES

1. We shall orient you with the modality of Laparoscopy and theatre discipline.

2. Basic Principles of creation of a safe pneumoperitoneum. 3. Log Book of more than 100 scrubs in Laparoscopic

Cases. 4. Basic Hand Eye Cordination on Endo Trainer. 50 Man

hours should be spent on the Endotrainer doing various exercises.

5. Basic Surgical skills like dissection, applying clips and putting intracorporeal knots or sutures.

6. Knowledge of selection of equipment, sterilisation and its mantainence.

7. Hands on basic procedures like Diagnostic Laparoscopy, L a p a r o s c o p i c O v a r i a n C y s t e x c i s i o n , L a p cholecystectomy . This is for the 6 months course.

8. Acquisition of skills may vary for each student but we expect our students to be able to perform safe Basic laparoscopic surgery.

ADVANCED COURSES

1. The students would assist and do in parts advanced laparoscopic surgeries.

2. A logbook with more than 300 scrubs in laparoscopy cases.

3. They would acquire skills and knowledge of various energy sources like the ultra scission, Ligasure, etc.

4. Proficency to use Endo Staplers. 5. Performing advanced surgeries under supervision like

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, Sleeve Gastrectomy or Laparoscopic Colectomy as per the Branch chosen.

6. Advanced hand eye coordination and 100 man hours on the endotrainer.

7. Proficient in Endo Suturing . 8. Acquisition of skills may vary for each student but we

expect our students to be able to perform safe Advanced laparoscopic surgeries under supervision.

How are the diplomas awarded?

BASIC AND ADVANCED COURSES

Upon completion of the duration of the course the candidates would be evaluated by a MCQ exam as well as by a Endo Trainer Lab Module for the skills acquired and would be awarded Diplomas with various grades.

What are the expenses?

Every course has a fees. The fees needs to be deposited in advance . Fees for Basic Courses and Short Courses are to be deposited fully in advance. Fees for Advanced Courses may be deposited in 2 parts. One at the time of admission and one at the end of first term of six months.

The fees would include: 1. Training Fees 2. Log Book charges. 3. Examination Charges. 4. Endo Lab charges.

though we have a skills lab but we encourage all our trainees to buy their own Endotrainers and basic instruments so that they can spend more time in skill acquisition .

Accommodation for foreign trainees can be arranged on prior intimation. The charges have to be paid directly to the house owners.
