Each Green Lantern possesses a power ring and battery (lantern-shaped) that guarantees the bearer the "possibility" of developing a variety of powers. Are common among all the power of flight and the fact that all power effects manifest accompanied by a green light. The ring is considered as one of the most powerful weapons ever created and as some-thing very dangerous in the wrong hands. While the Ring Green Lantern Golden Age (Alan Scott) is driven by magic, rings used by the Green Lantern Corps are technological creations of the Guardians of the Universe, which are allocated to candidates who are considered worthy of porting.

The indigo ring has basic power ring abilities such as flight and aura projection, as shown on the cover of Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #3. Its distin-guishing features include the ability to perceive compassion in others and to force compassion onto those who feel none. The indigo light can heal individuals with great empathy but exposes people to the pain they have inflicted on others. Members can also use indigo light to teleport themselves and others over vast intergalactic distances; this drains much of the ring's power, so the wearer uses it sparingly.

In the bonding process, the indigo ring forces its wearer to feel nothing but compassion. By blocking out all other emotions, the wearer can channel other emotions without being affected by them. The ring is classified as a parasite type like the orange ring,[ but differs in that it bonds most effectively with a user that lacks compassion. A wearer who has com-passion before the bonding is unable to block out the other emotions, and either becomes heavily influenced by the channeled emotion or is unable to channel the emotion.

In the early days of the Universe, natives of the over-populated planet Maltus evolved into immortals of great power. They subsequently settled the planet Oa and declared themselves the Guardians of the Universe and enemies of evil after one of their own, the renegade sci-entist Krona, performed a forbidden experiment that had terrible consequences for the Universe at large. Exactly what those consequences were have varied with differ-ent versions of the stories; originally, it was supposed to have unleashed Evil in the first place. Later, it was attrib-uted to have created the Antimatter Universe of Qward.

“In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my

power, Green Lantern's light!!”

All Blue Lanterns are armed with a blue power ring, fueled by the emotion hope. While hope is the most powerful of the seven emotions, Blue Lanterns must be near an active Green Lantern's power ring to tap into their own rings' full power. Otherwise, the rings are only capable of the default abilities of flight and a protec-tive aura. This is because the power of hope is nothing without the willpower to enact it. The Blue Lantern's protective aura allows them to survive in space and other hostile environments and can be manipulated to a limited degree even without a Green Lantern present, using it to augment their strength and extending it to form a larger shield, but this ability is almost exclusive-ly defensive. Blue rings must be activated by true hope before they will operate at their user's command.

While under the influence of a nearby green power ring, a blue power ring has the same abilities as a green ring, plus some unique powers of its own. Blue Lanterns can heal wounds and regenerate lost body parts.[5] The ring's power can be supplemented with the hope of other living beings; for instance, Saint Walker and Warth were able to reduce a dying sun's age by 8.6 billion years because of the hope emanating from the inhabitants of a nearby planet.

“In fearful day, in raging night,With strong hearts full, our souls ignite,When all seems lost in the War of Light,

Look to the stars-- For hope burns bright!”

Thaal Sinestro, at the time the universe's greatest Green Lantern, was sent to Earth by Supernova in a plot to erase Guy Gardner from history. Booster Gold was assigned to prevent this from happening. To do so, he convinced Sinestro to leave Earth, claiming that he was an admirer from the future, and that his yellow Legion of Super-Heroes flight ring was a trib-ute to Sinestro. When asked what Corps he belongs to, Booster ad-libbed, "The...Sinestro Corps", lead-ing Sinestro to twirl his mustache in thought while mumbling, "Of course...Of course."

After Sinestro went rogue, he was banished by the Guardians of the Universe to Qward in the antimat-ter universe. When he returned, he wielded a power ring which used yellow energy. After various encoun-ters with Earth's Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, he was imprisoned within the Central Power Battery. There he was able to use his ring, which uses fear, as op-posed to willpower, as a power source, to awaken Parallax from hibernation. From there, Parallax and Sinestro were able to influence the fall of Hal Jordan and instigate the fall of the Green Lantern Corps, leaving one last Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner.

“In blackest day, in brightest night,Beware your fears made into lightLet those who try to stop what's

right,Burn like my power”

Orange corp Red corp

The Orange Lantern Power Ring is powered by avarice, or greed. The wielders of the Orange Power Rings are, in fact, constructs created by the sole member of the Corps, Agent Orange, which is why members appear to be covered in an orange aura entirely. According to Ganthet, "the orange light of avarice will be discovered and manipulated by a being whose greed knows no bounds", Larfleeze.

The Controllers, an off-shoot of the Oan race, were searching the Vega star-system for the orange light

in order to create their own Corps. With the Guardians occupied with the Zamarons' experiments on the Star Sapphires, the Controllers were left to begin a search without opposition from the only two groups which would stop them. The Controllers believed they had lo-cated the orange light on the planet Okaara, within the Vega star-system, a forbidden territory for the Green Lantern Corps. Without the interference of the Guard-ians they could finally attain a power source that would allow them the means of creating an army to control the universe.

“What's mine is mine and mine and mine.

And mine and mine and mine! Not yours!"

Red Lanterns use red power rings, fueled by the rage of their users and those around them.Like oth-er power rings, the ring covers the user in a protec-tive aura which shields them from harm and enables flight, and can create "Hard Light" constructs. The power ring fires blasts of rage energy. The user's blood is replaced by a form of corrosive, rage-ener-gized blood. The user can regurgitate this blood. The blood has the effect of bursting into flames of rage; the flames are so potent that they will burn even in space. The blood can melt through the constructs of other ring wielders, penetrate their personal force fields (sometimes burning them to death in the process), and corrupt their rings, depleting their energy at an accelerated rate. The Red Rings' blood is one of the few known substances that can destroy a Black Lantern's corpse faster than even they can regener-ate.[citation needed] Since the Red Ring completely takes over the circulatory processes of the wearer, removing the heart of a Red Lantern only temporar-ily incapacitates them.

“With blood and rage of crimson red,Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,

Together with our hellish hate,We'll burn you all--That is your fate!”
