DEFINITION OF CULTURE

Word: Culture

by (Spradley & McCurdy 1975 and Collingwood).

*The 'culture' is the set of all forms and

expressions of a given society. As such it

includes customs, practices, codes, standards

and rules of how to be, dress, religion, rituals,

norms of behavior and belief systems.

*From another point of view we could say that

culture is all the information and skills that

humans possess.

* The concept of culture is central to the

disciplines that deal with the study of society,

especially anthropology and sociology.

American Culture: Traditions and Customs of the United States

*The United States is sometimes described as a "melting pot" in which different cultures have contributed their own distinct "flavors" to American culture.

*the United States as the third largest country in the world with a population of more is the most culturally diverse country in the world .

*The Northeast, South, Midwest, Southeast and Western regions of the United States all have distinct traditions and customs.

Language

*There is no official language of the United States,although 31 of 50 states have made English theirofficial language or given it exceptional status.

Religion

American style

*Clothing styles vary by region and climate, but the American

style of dressing is predominantly casual. Denim, sneakers

and cowboy hats and boots are some items of clothing that

are closely associated with Americans.

American food

*American cuisine has been influenced by Europeans and

Native Americans in its early history.

* There are also styles of cooking and types of foods that are

specific to a region, Texas y el suroeste is a blend of Spanish

and Mexican cooking styles .

world as a leader in mass media production,

including television and movies.

identified with quilts and other hand-crafted items.

*American music is very diverse with many styles,

including rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel, country

and western, bluegrass, rock 'n' roll and hip hop.

with millions of fans in diffrerents sports.

HISPANIC OR LATIN CULTURE IN THE UNITED

STATES

practices, thoughts, values, religious visions and

common language, its own way of understanding

the world - "live and die"

doubt that the Hispanic culture in its different

versions, is appropriating throughout the United

States.

Hispanic population in the United States,

knowledge of Spanish is becoming more of a

necessity than an option in many parts of the

country"; Americans are quick to learn a language

now spoken by most of the 40 million Hispanics

in the country".

CULTURE AS THE IMAGE OF LATIN AMERICA

*Latin America after Spanish conquest, the beginning of the interaction and interpenetration of blood and cultures. As the conqueror was mixed with the indigenous, permeated all Latin American culture.
