    Character Qualities Chapter 1 Rashid:

Cares more about other people than his own family --

With all his rehearsals and performances, Rashid was so

often on stage that he lost track of what was going on

    at home.

Likes to beat around the bush --Straight answers were

beyond the powers of Rashid Khalifa, who would never

take a shortcut if there were a longer route available.

    Haroun:

Low emotional quotient--The first thing Haroun said

on hearing his mother's leave was, 'What did you

have to break my clock for?' when obviously Haroun

could tell that Rashid was very depressed.

Character Qualities Chapter 2 Mr Butt, the Mail Coach driver

Keep to his words --'It was a figure of speech,' Mr Butt

replied. 'But but but I will stand by it! A figure of speech

is a shifty thing; it can be twisted or it can be straight.

But Butt's a straight man, not a twister. What's your wish,

    my young master?'

Puts promise before job --Mr Butt had simply decided

not to stop for mail in order to keep his promise to

    Haroun.

    Rashid

Low intelligent quotient--'Expenses of the journey?'

Rashid hopefully inquired, but the shouting men

shouted, 'More cash demands! Cheek! Cheek of the

Chappie!' and drove away at high speed.

    Character Qualities Chapter 3

    Snooty Buttoo

Jumps to conclusions --But at once, Snooty

Buttoo's voice cried out, 'Lenient Mr Rashid, it

seems the boy wants to cover-up his stink making

    with inventions.'

Close minded, cannot appreciate --'Very pleasant'

does not cover it all! Admit at the very least, that it

is all Super-Marvelloso, Incredible, and wholly

    Fantastick.'

    Character Qualities Chapter 4

    Iff the Water Genie

Very imaginative --Iff gave a snort of disgust, 'A

person may choose what he cannot see.'

    Haroun

Unobservant-He did not even notice that Butt the

Hoopoe was talking telepathically until a few

    sentences later.

-Likes to argue a lot--Keeps arguing with Butt the

Hoopoe about the geography of Kahani

Likes to question a lot--Haroun had plenty more

    questions to ask.

Realism, related to real life. Sucking up toyour superiors or bosses in order to wintheir favour and in turn get a better job, position at job and more money. This is

done by sweet talking or sending gifts toyour boss.

to Rashid as he needs to Rashid to tellgood stories of him, so that he is able towin the crowds favour.
