PARK OF THE FIVE SENSES, NORTH PORT FLPHASE 1, Passive Park with paved walking trails, picnic pavillions, stormwater detention, pervious parking (overflow), bus turn-around loop and waiting area, sundial, and sensory gardens. Design emphasized re-taining as many existing trees on sight as possible, bringing vehicular circulation into site to provide easy surveillance by law enforcement, and plantings that responded to the sense of touch, sound taste, and vision. Park was located in the oldest deed restricted neighborhood in North Port.

Before and After landscape revisions
This residential design emphasized the use of Florida friendly, drought tolerant plants that would require a minimum of maintenance. Snowbird owners required a landscape that worked with the existing palms. Ir-rigation installed for periods when no one would be available to provide supplemental water in the event of periodic droughts.

Urban Wetland Restoration EPA Grant Phase 1Rickardsway Wetland, Port Charlotte FL
A 12 Acre hydrologically isolated histroric wetland in a built out single family zoned area, adjacent to three schools and an af-fordable housing community was identified as an opportunity to demonstrat the potential for wetlands to treat stormwater and urban runoff before allowing it to contribute to polluting the Char-lortte Harbor National Estuary. The dark lines on the map joining together represent the canals that deliver excess runoff untreated to the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary. Charlotte County and the community ajdacent to this property acknowledged the value of multiple smaller locations in the urban fabric could play a key part in treating runoff while returning important habitats to wildlife.
These graphic in the upper right locates three public schools that are within walking distance of the site that could be and environ-mental park in which students are able to monitor the improve-ment or degradation in the water quality as development occurs or stormwater treatment succeeds.
$25,000 EPA Environmental Justice Grant to research how an Urban Wetland Restoration could help educate the community regarding its role in climate change.
My role was to identify the funding source, write the proposal within the deadline, coordinate relevant depart-ments, serve as project manager, write quarterly, re-ports, assist with the facilita-tion of community outreach events and monitor consul-tants for quality assurance.
The wetland circled in red on the historic aerial photo is a depressional wetland that was isolated by develop-ment and has become partially eutrophied. It is also overgrown with invasive exotics with little native fuana left.
