Town SpringTown Spring, located on the edge of downtown Athens, GA, serves as an important part of history for the University of Georgia. The uni-versity was situated where it is today due to the abundant source of fresh water from the spring that the university could use when it was first being established in 1785. This area is now surrounded by a parking lot and goes un-noticed by most individuals. My class took this site and created plans that would bring people to the space and celebrate the water.

Edible GardenThis edible garden located adjacent to a restaurant not only contains produce and herbs the kitchen can use, but it also creates a space for restaurant go-ers to enjoy. Within the space I designed planters of various heights and placed grouping of plants with similar colors in each one to create visual interest. Within this design I also included a raised deck with shade trees and a water feature where groups can gather or enjoy their meal.

New CommunitiesNew Communities, located in Albany, GA, was a community farmed land trust property that is in the process of transitioning into an event venue and tourist location. My class worked as a group with New Communities to create plans for the area to attract individuals and generate revenue. During the project my area of focus was the u-pick farm that we placed at the top of the site. This space will not only bring profits to the organization throught the selling of produce, but will also create a space for tour groups to come learn about the farming process.

Neo Traditional DevelopmentThe idea behind this design was to create a development where people could be car independent. To allow this de-sire to become a reality I created a main shopping area where everything is within close proximity of each other, al-lowing people to easily travel between stores. Surrounding this space I placed multi-family housing which gives people within this concentrated living area easy access to the retail space. Then, single family homes are located a little farther away from the main hub to provide privacy for these res-idence, while still not being too far from the main area of the development. To add additional benefits to this devel-opment, green space is easily accessible from any location on the site. These areas provide the opportunity for recre-ational activities and the chance to be immersed in nature through wooded trails. Conceptual Design

Waterfront ParkThis piece of real estate located in South Korea has amazing views out to the ocean and contains a large indoor seafood market that attracts many people daily. Currently the land sur-rounding the market is abandoned and not functional to individ-uals, so I looked at how I could improve this space. I proposed an ocean front promenade where people could walk along side the water or sit and enjoy the views along with a variety of spaces throughout the site. These areas allow for a wide va-riety of activities such as enjoying a meal purchased from the market at the shaded tables, relaxing on the lawn or strolling through the reforested portion of the site.

The Johnson’s ResidenceThis residential project, located in a high-end golf course community in Atlanta, was a great experience because my class was able to work for an actual client and design alongside the architect. Design solutions were unlimited for this project because the site only contained a few young pine trees and the budget was large. After exploring many options, the client decided to move the garage entrance, causing me to rede-sign my plans. This process of redoing my designs was frustrating, but it gave me in-cite into the reality of working for a client.

Conservation SubdivisionThe development of this subdivision is centered around the idea of providing access to green space from every lot in the neighborhood. When creating the neighborhood design I placed the roads in locations that would preserve the largest amount of natural space while also minimizing the amount of roads that lacked property frontage. After establishing the road locations I calculated both the vertical and horizontal road alignments to then be able to properly grade the site.

Design by DefinitionFor the development of this project I select-ed the word “variation” to inspire my de-sign. To create this feeling throughout the space I started by selecting the Bradford Pear due to its dramatic seasonal color. I then began to look further at making this word show throughout the site and decided to alter the ground cover from a soft grass into a rougher gravel when traveling further into the site. Other elements that change within the design are the sizes of the two ponds and the topography throughout the site. All of these elements come together to provide an interesting and varied experi-ence for visitors.

College Wide CharetteAt the end of my 4th year fall semester the entire College of Environment and Design was separated into 19 groups to work on the redesign of a portion of the Atlanta Highway. My group focused on green in-frastructure and ecosystem services. With this initia-tive we were able to save a large portion of natural space throughout the site and improve water quality through the addition of wetlands. We also made the area more pedestrian friendly by adding a walkable commercial hub and a green way trail around and through the site.

College of Environment and DesignThis project focused on designing the landscape for the College of Environment and Design’s new building. I based my plan off of sweeping move-ments that would juxtapose the modern archi-tecture of the building. Also, I placed many trees throughout the space to allow it to become a wel-coming area for people to come and relax through-out the day.

Fort Yargo State Park RenovationFort Yargo State Park, located in Winder, Ga, has become run down and much in need of renovations. For this project I worked in a group with two other individuals and we decid-ed to focus our attention on three main areas: the nature center, beach, and camp ground. We worked to bring the existing structures up to date and then added small elements to im-prove movement throughout the sites.
