What is land pollution?
LAND POLLUTION is the degradation of Earth's
land surfaces often caused by human activities and their

Definition of Some terms: Solid Waste- is any variety of materials that are
ejected or discarded as being spent, useless & worthless or in excess
Refuse- refers to things rejected as worthless or insignificant
Garbage- refers strictly to animals or vegetable wastes resulting from the handling, storage, preparation or consumption of food
Trash- is useless or worthless matter that is unsightly but does no contain odor-producing wastes
Toxic- potentially to cause injury to living organisms

Environmental Policy & Regulations for Land Pollution
Commonwealth Act. No.383- punishes dumping of solid wastes into rivers.
Executive Order No.192- defines powers and functions of DENR in environmental protection.
Presidential Decree(PD) No.552- prescribes sanitation requirement in operating establishments & facilities serving the public.
PD 600 or Prevention & Control of Marine Pollution- prevents & controls dumping of wastes & other into the sea.
PD 824- created Metropolitan Manila Development Authority(MMDA) to coordinate & direct solid waste collection & disposal in metro manila among other functions.
PD 856 or Sanitation Code- provides for efficient collection & disposal of sewage, chemicals, etc. in cities & municipalities.
PD 1151 or 1977 Environmental Policy- requires project proponents to prepare environmental impact statement which includes mitigation measures for pollution
PD 984 or Pollution Control Law- regulates air, water, and land pollution.

RA 9003 or The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000- mandates segregation of wastes at source collection & transfer & prioritizes the wide dissemination & adoption of measures for waste reduction, resource recovery, recycling, & re-use.

RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 was borne out of the pressing need to address the worsening garbage problem in the country.
