If your name is on this list, you are helping complete BnrC’snewest trail which connects Mahanna Cobble to Bousquetski area, a key part of the first leg of the High road through-trail to olivia’s overlook. Your gift made it possible to complete the purchase to protect 151 acres of open marsh,wetlands and forests at parsons Marsh in the UndermountainValley, where in 2018 construction will begin of our first accessible trail and boardwalk project. and you helped protect35 acres of picturesque, boulder-strewn three Mile Hill, adjacent to thomas & palmer Brook reserve in Great Barrington.

2017 marks a historic milestone for BNRC, the year

that your loyal support carried us past the High Road

campaign goal of $5 million. This success marks, as

well, a transition from promoting a grand vision to

making it happen.

This is not the only transition of consequence. The

final days of 2017 were Tad Ames’ last days in his role

as President of BNRC. They were, as well, the culmi-

nation of a recruitment process where Jenny Hansell

was appointed, by unanimous vote of the board, as

Tad’s successor as President. Jenny will author this

letter in next year’s annual report, just as Tad has in

years past, and I will surrender my interim role as

communicator to a real pro.

Now, back to Tad. Space on this page does not

accommodate the accolades that Tad has earned

over his 17 years leading this organization. So, I will

distill my words to thanking him for the High Road.

Without his vision, capacity to communicate, and

infectious enthusiasm, there would be no High Road

to celebrate. This has been Tad’s transformational gift

to the organization and a brilliant stepping off point as

he embarks on a new chapter, and a platform from

which Jenny will guide the vision to reality.

2017 also marked BNRC’s 50th anniversary, which

we celebrated with a country fair at Holiday Farm in

Dalton, welcoming over 500 supporters and friends.

What a year!

It has been an honor to serve as Chairman during

this time of celebration and transformation. We cele-

brate, with you, a shared commitment to an accessible

conservation landscape in the Berkshires. The transfor-

mational vision toward that end is the Berkshire High

Road. Your support has fueled us with the resources to

go out and get it done. We’ll see you out there.

an agricultural preservation restriction (apr) on their Windy

Hill Farm. this permanently protects their farm at the scenic

northern entrance to Great Barrington.
