About Landfill Leachate

Landfill leachate is generated as a result of precipitation, surface run-off, and infiltration of groundwater percolating through a landfill. The discharge of landfill leachate can lead to serious environmental problems, since the leachate contains a large amount of organic matter(both biodegradable and non-biodegradable carbon), ammonia-nitrogen, heavy metals, chlorinated organic and inorganic salts. Although some of these pollutants can be degraded by microorganisms, the limitation of common biological processes has made it difficult to meet the correlative discharge standard.

The leachate should be treated before discharged due to the risk from its high organic contaminant concentrations and high concentration of ammonia. Pathogenic microorganisms that might be present in it. In the US and the European Union, it is mandatory to use impermeable liners except where the waste is deemed insert.

Process Decription

In this project MFT super RO technology is used to treat landfill leachate. Effluent water quality meets Standard for Pollution Control on the Landfill Site of Municipal Solid Waste(GB16889-2008).

Raw wastewater is first filtered by grid, removing large dirt. After that pH adjustment agent is dosed to neutralize the wastewater in the primary sedimentation tank. After that wastewater sequentially goes through multimedia filter and security filter, filtering all particles larger than 1μm. Then pretreated water enters super RO device, producing qualified discharge water and brine. Brine is discharge to a special tank, pumped back to a recharge process.
