Where your money goes...
It’s all for a very good cause. Since 1986 LandAid has been
using the property industry’s resources,
expertise and influence to help disadvantaged young
people achieve their potential. Over 2,000 young
people are benefitting from the terrific amount of money
last year’s LandAid Day raised. This has supported seven
projects across England, Scotland and Wales.
Who is taking part?
LandAid Day is the only dedicated fundraising day for the whole property
industry. Last year over 40 companies took part including Helical Bar - we
dressed as superheroes and peddled around Berkeley Square! GVA employees
and clients abseiled down the International Press Centre, MEPC held a twelve
hour row-a-thon, Property Week had a football tournament and Mountgrange
held a pub quiz. Please support this year’s LandAid Day and help us help more
young people.
How you can help...
If you don’t want to fundraise you can still make a difference by:
taking part in the LandAid Day Treasure Hunt (see page 6)
making a one off donation— send us a cheque made payable to ‘LandAid’
making a regular donation— visit www.landaid.org/give

CASE STUDY

Katie, 15 years old, attends The Light House Group in Bradford. Katie, has had a difficult upbringing, growing up with a broken family life, witness-ing physical violence and alcoholism in the home; she remembers watching as her dad walked out on the family. As a result, Katie's circumstances at home began to affect her performance at school. Struggling to control her anger, Katie got into
trouble leading to permanent exclusion. Experimenting with drugs, drink and harmful relationships, Katie had hit rock bottom. Arriving, at TLG, Katie has had the level of support that is needed to help her overcome her difficult circumstances. Being brought up in a single parent family, where mum works long hours, Katie hasn’t had much of an opportunity to learn how to live independently. The conversion of an underutilised room through the support of LandAid has given TLG the opportunity to start delivering vocational programmes that will equip young people like Katie to learn some basic life skills. Katie has just started a Food Technology Programme at TLG; she says “The course is helping me to learn to cook, I feel more confident now giving it a go at home. The sessions are fun and helping me practically for the future. Before I could never make anything, now I’ve learnt about cross contamination, food hygiene and how to store food, I would like to look at food technology courses that I could do at college in the future.”
FACT: Over 50% of excluded children will fail to get any GCSEs
FACT: TLG provides educational programmes to young people who are at crisis in their education or at risk of exclusion from school.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS The best fundraising ideas are the simple ones! Ask for donations to take part and make it competitive. Include all your offices (if you have more than one) and offer a prize to the person/department/office that raises the most money or who wins the task. Here are a few ideas to get you going….
www.landaid.org/day | Registered Charity Number 295157 | Tel: 020 3102 7190
LandAid Day birthday party—throw a party in the office with cake, jelly and ice cream and ask people who come to make a donation. Birthday cake bake-off—hold a competition for the best LandAid birthday cake. Sell slices to your col-leagues. Children’s party games—borrow the board room for pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs etc. Nintendo Wii Competition—have a Wii Sports/
Singstar/Guitar Hero competition. Ask for a donation from those who enter. Ransom the CEO—lock your CEO in the office for 25 minutes during which time they must contact as many people as possible to make a dona-tion or get them ‘Back to the Floor’ covering recep-tion or serving refreshments at meetings – he/she goes to the department who bids the most! Hairy bear competition—who is the hairiest mem-ber of male staff aged over 25? Hold a company vote and the winner must do a sponsored chest wax.
Baked bean boot challenge—vote for who has to wear wellys full of baked beans for an hour at work. Costume contest—everyone in the office makes a donation to dress up in an ‘80s costume to mark LandAid’s 25th Anniversary. Five-a-side football—invite your clients or competi-tors to a tournament. Pub Quiz—invite your clients or competitors. LandAid collection in reception—ask visitors to make a donation to LandAid.

GUIDELINES Before you start fundraising there are a few things you need to be aware of:
If you plan to hold a raffle, lottery or sweep stake there are very strict rules, but you can hold a small raffle as part of a larger event. You must sell the tickets and announce the winner during the event only. No more than £500 can be spent on buying prizes and cash prizes may not be given. Please see the Gambling Commission website for further information. www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk
Do not collect money in the street without a licence from your local authority or the police. Businesses are required by charity law to have a written agreement with us if they plan to sell goods
or services, or run business promotions, for LandAid Day. LandAid does not authorise you to act as an agent for or on behalf of LandAid, so neither you nor
your fundraising materials may suggest that you represent LandAid. LandAid and LandAid Day are trademarks of LandAid and are used under licence. Branding for your
fundraising can be downloaded at www.landaid.org/day Please make sure any publicity and fundraising materials that you create yourself (e.g. posters)
include the line: In support of LandAid, registered charity 295157 LandAid cannot accept liability for your event. If you think you need insurance you will need to take
it out yourself.
