In every campaign for Liberty bonds, Red Cross, War ' Savings Stamps, etc., the county went '"over the tcip" Practically every cit 1zen of the county had a personal -pride in the record of Crawford coun ty and put their shoulder to the wheel in every drive. Well they might take an interest for almost a thousand of our native sous were in the service of their country. They were the cream of our young manhood who were anxious to do their part In the great world war for democracy. i Alfred Wright, chief clerk of the "^exemption 'board, has compiled a list of names of those who were in the ser- ?vice of their country. Mr. Wright compiled .this list from the records of the local board and a copy was sent to. the state adjutant general to be fll$d with the lists from the other counties of the state and preserved as a part'of the history of Iowa's war activities. Through the kindness of Mr. Wright the Review is able to print this week the list of names as com- piled by Mr. Wright. ' The list contains the names of 859 Crawford county :boys. However, the list is not complete as many of our young men enlisted before the local board commenced its duties and their records do not cover many of these enlistments. This is especially true of the first enlistments. Many Crawford county boys were in France when the local Iboard commenced its duties. Review readers should clip this list of names from the paper this week as in years to come it will prove valu- able. After each name letters desig- nate the branch that the young men belonged to. A—army; N—navy; M— marines; M. R.—Medical reserve; D. . R.—dental reserve. Throwing manure but of the win- dows of the dairy barn and allowing it it to accumulate until the windows are blocked by the accumulated pile Is a bad practice.' The fertilizing mate- rial in manure is largely held by the water contained in the .manure and nearly.all is dissolved in water. The pile of manure is often under the eaves of the barn where water from the roof washes it. After two or three months, about half of the value is gone. Ten cows will average about SO. tons of manure a year, worth some- thing over |200. Throwing $100 or more away is a poor sort of conserva- tion, when hauling direct to the land, proper stacking or a manure shed would prevent it. '* Crawford county has made an enviable war record. In every campaign for Liberty bonds, Red Cross, War

' Savings Stamps, etc., the county went '"over the tcip" Practically every cit 1zen of the county had a personal -pride in the record of Crawford coun ty and put their shoulder to the

• wheel in every drive. Well they might take an interest for almost a thousand of our native sous were in the service of their country. They were the cream of our young manhood who were anxious to do their part In the great world war for democracy.

„ • i Alfred Wright, chief clerk of the "^exemption 'board, has compiled a list

of names of those who were in the ser-?vice of their country. Mr. Wright compiled .this list from the records of the local board and a copy was sent to. the state adjutant general to be fll$d with the lists from the other counties of the state and preserved as a part'of the history of Iowa's war activities. Through the kindness of Mr. Wright the Review is able to print this week the list of names as compiled by Mr. Wright. '

The list contains the names of 859 Crawford county :boys. However, the list is not complete as many of our young men enlisted before the local board commenced its duties and their records do not cover many of these enlistments. This is especially true of the first enlistments. Many Crawford county boys were in France when the local Iboard commenced its duties.

Review readers should clip this list of names from the paper this week as in years to come it will prove valuable. After each name letters designate the branch that the young men belonged to. A—army; N—navy; M— marines; M. R.—Medical reserve; D.

. R.—dental reserve. " The list .follows:

Throwing manure but of the windows of the dairy barn and allowing it it to accumulate until the windows are blocked by the accumulated pile Is a bad practice.' The fertilizing material in manure is largely held by the water contained in the .manure and nearly.all is dissolved in water. The pile of manure is often under the eaves of the barn where water from the roof washes it. After two or three months, about half of the value is gone. Ten cows will average about SO. tons of manure a year, worth something over |200. Throwing $100 or more away is a poor sort of conservation, when hauling direct to the land, proper stacking or a manure shed would prevent it.
