By harmonising the essential cargo flow functions of access, stowage, care and handling, Cargotec offers integrated cargo flow solutions which optimise and enhance the functionality of your MacGregor linkspan or other RoRo systems. To achieve this, our specialists and technical teams work closely with port operators, shipowners, and consultants on issues relating to cargo flow. At the basic pre-project stage, we offer preliminary studies and engineering services. MacGregor RoRo systems and equipment are then supplied as an integrated solution based on cargo type, space limitations, logistic factors and environmental conditions. Cargotec is a global company with facilities near ports worldwide. Once the MacGregor system is in service, Cargotec endeavours to provide lifetime support in the form of maintenance and service solutions that ensure operative availability of your MacGregor equipment.

Later in the life-cycle of the installation, our capability to modernise and convert the original solution helps the operator get even more from the investment by optimising performance to match new market needs.

Interface between ship and shore Ferries are getting wider and freeboards higher, requiring high flexibility at the quay interface. Cargotec’s MacGregor linkspans provide fast turnaround times in port which increases the frequency of sailings and number of departures. MacGregor linkspans can be tailor-made and specifically designed for the site, to best serve your purposes. They are available in a wide range of models.

Shore ramps• A variety of articulated shore ramps, permanent or mobile, are available to provide direct access to all RoRo decks. All designs give smooth cargo flow independent of tidal variations and trim mode of the ferry.

Pontoon linkspans• Allow ferries to berth at quays that are unsuitable because of size, shape, tidal conditions or for berths to be created at sites without regular quay facilities.

Pontoon passenger terminals• Ideal for shuttle coastal service, providing smooth, safe access for foot passengers, cars and provisions. They are built and installed in full compliance with guidelines for senior citizens and passengers with impaired mobility.

Floating car parks• Low draught, multi-storey parking garages offers a solution to the parking problems of ports and crowded cities which have a waterfront. The moveable car park can be transfered if the parking situation is changed.

Cargotec is an innovator in the field of linkspans and other port systems, with a sharp focus on human safety. Our innovation and global presence are highlighted by examples of our projects shown in this brochure.

RoRo terminals globally are under-going massive expansion and modern-isation. To have competitive door-to-door handling, turnround time in ports must be reduced. Linkspan systems

are no longer bottlenecks as ramps and pontoons are getting wider.

New safety requirements have led to wider ferries and higher freeboards, requiring the high flexibility at the quay interface which Cargotec’s MacGregor RoRo systems provide.

Two-tier loading is becoming a necessity with large new ferries. Three-tier loading systems have been built and are expected to be introduced to major

terminals shortly. Electric and hydraulic operating machinery is developing to become simpler, but more safety redundant.

Through-life cost assessment for port and linkspan systems is becoming an essential part in evaluating different systems. Having introduced maintenance packages for onboard RoRo systems, Cargotec now offers the same advantages to port operators.

Innovation hand-in-hand with safety
